I love RB... It's actually one of my favorite areas to climb... GREAT Trad, Bouldering, and Sport in a beautiful place. I have seriously considered buying property at Lake Lure, moving out there, and just retiring early.

Everyone with a subscription to Climbing should look at the RB picture in the gallery of the latest issue. After witnessing the awesomeness, give money to save the Bald!

Save Rumbling bald it is the best Winter climbing spot in the entire Carolinas. Do you part and buy a inexpensive bumper sticker and support the fund.

Come on out y'all! We have a few more tickets that might be available at the door, $20. Check out www.seclimbers.org or www.carolinaclimbers.org for more details, directions, prize list, etc.

Just a report... The Bald Is Beautiful event was a huge success and tons o' fun. The assembled masses raised over $6000. The bill to create "Hickory Nut Gorge State Park" in the NC legislature passed the Senate unanimously and is now headed to committee in the House. I've already written all of the representatives in the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee and have received positive responses from several. The Bald is well on its way! In the meantime, the weather in the Carolinas is warming up nicely and high season at the Bald is winding down. If you happen to head over there, please remember that the no camping rule is still in effect. For more details and links to even more details, click here.

In reply to: I'm a westerner and have never been to the Bald. What's happening to it? Nothing. There is legislation to convert it to a state park which would presumably preserve recreational activities there (including technical rock climbing). It will happen and this way some people can have a false sense of accomplishment with their social activities. It was a done deal politically before all this phony, gear selling, marketing gimic was announced.
