I heard mention of, "Hooking Pads", I think it was in the Zion History thread http://www.rockclimbing.com/...iewtopic.php?t=79572 and I think it may have been by "dangle", but searching brings me all sorts of crazy threads of no relevance. What exactly are "Hooking Pads"?

i believe what you are reffering to is where various crashpads are attatched together using their buckles and straps. this works well on slopes and in awkward areas where pads could potential slide around. some pads have bucle systems designed with this in mind.

A common problem on soft rock is rock failure under concentrated forces. To better distribute the weight on a hook I've used a small leather strip as padding. (I've had hooks hold for a few minutes and then blow!)

The source appears! Thank you for clearing this up.. sort of Do you just set the straps there, tie them onto the hooks, do you have them racked somehow, different sizes or thickness?
