Friend of mine told me that I will need Tri Cam Nuts for trad climbing in kentucky. Is he right ? Can I climb there with my regular rack ( stoppers, hexes, friends) ? Could somebody let me know about guide book ( name and price ) and what type of rock is there. Thanks to all for your help.

Most of the red is very compact sandstone, and it can get very pockety, i would suggest a set of tricams at least .5-2 but for the most part the sizes at the red depend on what you want to climb, you can find some sub tips stuff, but out on long wall there are some offwidth and chimneys. as for the guidbook you are SOL it is wayyy outa print and wont be re-released till supposedly next fall. however from march 18-april 5th ill prolly be there and i have a guidebook so look me up at miguels and ill point you in the right dirrection, ohh yea miguels, the real beta. miguels pizza is awesome, and they have $2 a night climber only camping and is the place to start the OE 800 training youve been missing. and someone always has a guidebook threre.

The sandstone at the Red is varied from great to choss, though you'll be climbing on the more solid stuff.

I won't say squate about the gear you'd "need" to bring but stick with what you are comfortable with. Don't use a new piece of gear pumping out 15ft above your last placement and looking at a bad fall.

Don't worry about a print guide. redriverclimbing.com has the complete guide online, very user friendly.
