Anyone here have a snow saw\shovel combonation (I know blue does). How well does the saw work? Looked like rather small teeth to me. Are they way heavier than if you got the seperate? How about the lifelink saws at REI for 40 bucks, is it worth it? Anyone here have much success making one? I am going to attept in a few days... Also, what would you consider the best type of snow for making blocks? The light styrofoam seems best to me, I cut blocks with a carpenters saw. Where is the info? SPIT!

My G/F has the shovel/saw combo. we hardly ever use the saw - perfer instead to use my woodsaw from homedepot to cut blocks, do shear tests (avy pits) and gather firewood. cheaper than a "snow saw" by a longshot.

I have a snow shovel/saw combo. I think it's a Vaude or something, originally meant for snowboarders to build jumps or something. It's friggen heavy and I'm sure you could find a seperate combo cheaper (especially with those lexan shovels nstuff). The saw that fits in the handle is pretty good though, it has pretty huge teeth. It's so heavy that I don't carry it as often as I ought to though.

In reply to: I have the shovel/probe pole combo. Don't have a need for a saw. Have dug snow pits with the shovel and HIGHLY recommend you sharpen the blade like you would a crampon point. Sounds like a not at bad idea, but sharp crampons and me do not get along, so I doubt I will have much luck with the shovel...
