Couldn't tell ya. And here I am trying to move out there, what a great idea to tell my girlfriend. Wonder how long she'll keep the straight face.

That sounds like a great idea. Sucks they went into financial troubles. I hate it when gyms close or when you can't find one. I live in a valley where there are no gyms. There is this one but it's really small and they charge a fortune. It's not worth it. The closest gym is several hours away. Hopefully someone buys it and does great with it.

sub-zero...just curious what the gym you mention charges (which you consider a fortune) that prevents you from going? The reason I ask Is I am trying to figure out a fair rate to charge at my gym. Thanks Matt

Matt- The local gym here in San Diego runs ~$12 for a daypass, which seems close to reasonable, but a monthly membership runs $40 a month, which I think is a little high. They offer "couple" memberships for $60 a month for a climber and his friend/climbing parter/significant other/whatever... The 2 for 60 option seems to be a good motivator to get memberships. Hope that helps you out. I'm not sure if pot smoking hippies and shakespearean actors can shell out that much cash, but it seems reasonable down here in SoCal. Also, don't try to tell me there's more to Ashland than Shakespeare and weed, I grew up in Oregon, so I know ;-) You may also consider having a "resident" day pass for like $10 a day and a non-resident pass for $13 a day. Then you could make more money off of the tourists when they come to town without putting off your locals. Just have people show their liscence, and if they have an Ashland address, then they get the discount... I think that would be cool...

The gym will be in Medford...but there is more to Ashland then what you mentioned...great mountain biking! Most gyms price monthly memberships significantly higher because they prefer to sell yearly memberships. Our prices will be competitive with other local fitness gyms, but without the initiation fee. Sorry to hijack this thread, I hope those folks can sell the Red Mountain Gym. It was built by Eldorado Wall company who makes an excellent climbing wall. They will also be building ours. There is alot of value in that wall itslef. I was told that the Red Mountain Gym went under due to poor strategy in marketing, and someone who knew the local demographic and economy better could potentially do well with the gym. It's all about the tourists in that town. Eldo guys constructting The Red: http://www.eldowalls.com/...s/hp/images/T22b.jpg

Just out of curiosity, what would the wall cost and is there any speculation on the value of Red Mountain Gym? How much is spent just on insurance alone, for an indoor gym?
