Design is one thing. Philosophy is another. What market share were we trying to capture with the monkey?

I dont know. As far as I can tell its an animal that climbs - climbers climb also - I dont think it is too far fetched. Anyway, that wasnt my point..

All I was talking about in that quote was why the design of the old/current logo doesnt work. The new one is that one step closer. I m not going to start a debate about the philosophy of using a monkey for this site as a good idea or not. I m simply talking about branding. the 2D design of the moneky shows up clearly on stationary tshirts etc. the old one didnt.

I agree with pmyche 100% in that the two are not inseprable. I am merely saying that the monkey has the 2D nice looking aspect that the old one didnt. That alone is reason to change the logo - monkey or otherwise.
We are on the same page brutha ;) I may have worded it poorly but thats what I was going for. Look at any successful company. Microsoft. XEROX. Coca-cola. Five Ten. Nike. pick one. they are all 2D, simple and are easily recognizable and print well in almost any color combination.

I am not saying that any 2D graphic is a successful brand simply by virtue of being 2D. we all know that that is rediculous.

The only people that the monkey logo will attract are 14-year-old girls. Sell the logo to Pete and use the proceeds to develop a logo anew.

You're asking the right questions at least.

Who is the target audience?

What do you want that audience to do?

What will you give them to make them do it?
