hello,
i am thinking about ordering the two fish items and although the double whammy seems to be highly recommended, i was wondering about the grade 5 to accompany it vs. any other haul bag? what do you recommend?
cheers james

They're not as bomber as the Metolius, but well worth the price.

The FISH bag .. i own one so here is my 2 cents

Once its on the haul line and being hauled up the side of the cliff, this bag rocks. Since its basically a well built haulbag -- i've got 1 hole in mine because of poor packing job.

Where haul bags differentiate is on comfort while wearing it.

PRO's

- The price

CON's

- the suspension is bottom line.

=====================

For the money its right on .. if you go extra dough -- then you'd probably want to get a bag with a nicer suspension (yates) , since the only times you'll really notice your haulbag is when its on your back.

how bad is bad?
the only other bag i can afford in the uk will be the bd touchstone.
unfortunately this may be schleped up onto glaciers.....is it unrealistic to survive the approach with these bags?

I've got a Fish budget bag (7500 ci) and an A5 monster (the 9000 ci).

I've actually been pretty impressed with effectiveness of the Fish suspension, given how crude it is. If you load the weight carefully (all the heavy stuff against your back) it ain't that bad.

The A5 has crude loadlifters, and I kluged on a sternum strap to help more (haven't figured out a good way on the Fish yet), but it was only somewhat better than the Fish, not night and day. In both cases I was only humping around 70 lbs at a shot, thanks to my flaky knee. Maybe at larger loads the differences would be more apparent.

With fish, stuff is bomber, and functional. The level of polish is very low. You won't ever huck it at the trash for letting you down, but you also won't get the same shiny gear reaction when you crack the box. Colors will be odd at best, the lines straight (no wavy S curve straps here), and the stitches will be obviously made by human hands (but there will be a ton of them where it counts).

Another note is to really pack the bottom tight irregardless of brand. If not the bottom caves in and rides like shit, digging into your back and ass in painful ways.

Sorry I can't help with opinions on ledges, I only have a econoledge, and it's still virgin. Garage hang testing with two big dudes looks promising, no sight of breaking a sweat. Will find out more very soon.
