I was watching the movie Cliff Hanger the other day, and Stalone was using a bolt gun. Is that how most bolts are placed or are there other, more common ways?

The only thing "Cliffhanger" is good for, is a drinking game. You have to take a slug every time something unreal occurs, starting with the harness buckle deforming and breaking under body weight. You also have to drink every time Stallone does or says something stupid (i.e. the no feet double-dyno), AND every time Stallone kills somebody.

I one thing I did enjoy about the show was the moves Stallone was supposedly doing under that huge roof at the start of the movie. Stallone's character is soloing, and they zoom out and a real climber is doing amazing moves under the roof. The climber was the late Wolfgang Gullich.

This topic was discussed ages ago on rec.climbing (1993), here is one of many links.
