Andrew/atg200,

Thank you for clearing that up for me! I didn't understand, until now, why we needed a seperate forum.

Now I do!

And I also want to express my vote, for this forum to be!

Name it whatever you want, but let us have it please!

Jeff

I gotta agree, get all this stuff together in one spot so I don`t hafta chase all over the forum to put it all together myself. Clear concise articles with pics would be the bomb.

A PTPP forum gets my vote too. Anyone hearing this? It seems like an overwhelming request...

So is this where I jump on the bandwagon, or...?

I don't do aid climbing or anything, but I do enjoy the posts (most of the time at least, let's not inflate PTPP's ego TOO much).

Damn: Let me just say that the Pete posts are the high point of my day.

I guided for over 6 years, taught mountain rescue, climbed like a MF in my day and have hung with and or climbed with a few "name" climbers. I show up here and start seeing Petes stuff and an totally astounded, amazed and absorbed. Blown away, in fact.

What sets PTPP apart are 2 things:

1st) His writing is a good as it gets: maybe better than that. (What does "whiter than white" in that laundry commercial mean anyway)

2nd) Strong material. Some of this is totally new to me, after almost 30 years of climbing, it's refreshing to see new and improved techniques you can't get in a magazine or from your buddies (if they are not logging into RC.com anyway.) Remember the second part of that sentence, improved!!! Be it resolved that no longer will my bollacks be used as a haul bag hanger!!!

See there, you can teach an old dawg new trick. (OK at least you can show me the tricks so I am duly impressed before I forget them as I dodder off down the street forgeting my name and place of residence )

Thanks Pete for taking the time, it's damn nice of you.

Warm regards:

Bill

This thread should be renamed "We want our ASK DR PITON's forum back".

Here's my vote.

I have excellent sketches and textbook photos of my Continuous Loop System in use on my recent solo of The Shortest Straw.

I have held off answering this post until now, because of its insane complexity.

I look forward to bringing it to you shortly.

Everybody can beat this dead horse all they like, but I seriously doubt the Dr Piton forum will return.

The best Dr. Piton threads are currently being edited to present as a series of articles. This should address the problem of posts being difficult to find, and these will also have a printer friendly version available that will be useful as a reference when climbing. The biggest problem I have now with finding Dr Piton information is that the posts, while entertaining to read, are not good reference material as they are not concise and end up with an awful lot of chaff replys.

While I have a tremendous amount of respect for Pete and have learned as much as anyone from him, he is not the only world class aid climber on this site. His techniques are excellent, but they are not the only way to do things. People like elcapbuzz, russwalling, karlbaba, benjo, bigdan, and other current and hopefully future members have a wealth of knowledge that would probably be marginalized or even ignored if a Dr Piton forum existed, which is really just an exclusionary name for another aid climbing forum.

You can open this can of worms again, but I will veto this before it ever happens. The reason for this is not because Pete doesn't contribute TONS of great, original content. The masses say he does. Instead, the reason for not creating a Dr. Piton forum is for two-fold:

1) He is not the best climbing expert in the world. His focus is on Aid and he is not the only experienced aid climber here. In fact he is arguably not the most experienced/knowledgeable, even when it comes to Aid. So by creating a Dr. Piton forum it makes the current Aid forum redundant and discourages the other very and possibly more experienced aid climbers from responding. I will not alienate the other great aid climbers in an effort to prop up Pete.

2) People want to find Pete's definitive Aid resource. The forums is NOT the place for that. It's disorganized, gets out of control, and is very hard to find things. I am working on something in the Articles section to make Pete's knowledge organized and easy to find.

Trevor

Trevor, please lock this forum. You've made yourself fully understood; it doesn't need to be re-hashed everytime someone else gets an "orignial thought" and wants to start beating this dead horse again.
