Newish to Missoula, looking for someone who knows the area . . .or is willing to explore with me . . . I am a solid 5.9er and making the transition to 5.10's. Some lead . . no trad experience . . . working on it.

Go to the REI store On reserve street, or pipestone, or the Trail head, they have plenty of books and know the area well. If you are looking for climbing partners, go to the Rock garden (indoor climbing wall) they sometimes have some postings of other climbers looking for climbing partners. I hope that this helps.

The climbing around Missoula is really terrible. I would recommend that you quit the sport of climbing completely and pursue something else, like rockhounding, berry picking, or bird watching. These are very popular in Missoula and it would be easy to find an excellent partner.
If you really want to stick with climbing there is a guide book to all of the nearby choss piles. Check out the "The Rock Climber's Guide to Montana"

I haven't climbed in the Bitteroots for about 15 years, but I can say that Blodgett Canyon is one of the BEST unsung semi-bigwall areas I've ever seen. Learn how to trad/adventure climb and that place will blow you away.

If you don't do any trad but have gear for sport climbing and our up for some driving Check out the area around Drummond, i don't know of too many places to top rope with out the use of some one leading to set it up. If you have any more questions PM me.

oh My GAWD . . . you mean I've been wasting my time pursuing a sport that involves climbing around on rocks, when I could have been watching some birds or *gasp* picking berries. Thank you for setting me straight! Perhaps you would like to go berry picking with me?
As for this book . . . I had no idea they made books that told you where to climb, do these books come with a belayer . . . ? Do I get to pick what he looks like?
I just got out of the Seattle area, Go Dawgs indeed, and sarcastic-ness aside, I've been lead to believe that alot of climbs are not published in this area. . . Montanans, go figure.

Try the bulletin boards at the gear shops.
Also, you might try posting in the partner forum.
Good luck, and, if you run into a dead end, shoot me a pm, I know a few folks who climb up that way...
