Okay, kids, we've all talked about it via IM, on the site, on the phone, and via PM .. and now we've got something special to celebrate - hanger & nikegal are officially engaged (w00t!, or weeeeeeeee! as the case may be) .. so now it's time to plan for a reunion of sorts to come together and celebrate their engagement.

Time and location are TBD as I'd like to find something that works for everyone who has participated in blue toenail fetishes, be it painting, having been painted, or holding down someone else (*cough*) to forcibly paint her toes. Anyone who recalls slacklining while getting drunk with non-alcoholic beer, quad-mochas in the morning, bop-it challenges in the evening, being politely asked to leave the building and buildering outside afterwards, sneaking out with pitchers of famous UT beer, swimming at the pool, buildering at the pool, gymnastic escapades, cheerleading pyramids, and chasing a certain helpless blonde in an effort to paint her toes. Kamakazi hacky sack, buildering Jules house, lobster dinners, terrorizing grocery stores, fantastic jokes and stories around the campfire, signing Anne's shirt, and the list goes on.

If you remember (or barely remember) any of these events, I'm talking to you. I miss you, let's get together again. What say you? Any preferences for when/where?

A big hearty congrats Rob and ~T~.

I agree that it is time we had another get together. Let's call it the "Long timers" well wishing gathering. In the hope that R & T will live, love, and be our friends for a long time..... oh and it's a long time since we first started to get to know each other.

I'm IN.

HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations Rob & T, that's great news!!
I'm so happy for you both!

The further east you bring the gathering, the greater chance I'll have of attending; but I will make every effort possible to be there. I miss all you guys like crazy and cherish the memories we made those 4 crazy days in SLC. I probably won't be able to climb (still licking my wounds), but I'd go just to see you guys again. Just let me know when and where and I'm THERE!!!

(Disclaimer: "I'm THERE!!!" implies that the wife, 5 kids, and my job all allow me to sneak away for the duration)

On a similar note, Jen and I just celebrated our 10th anniversary this month ~ my, how the time flies , I wish you both the same luck that Jen and I have enjoyed and much more!

Ack!

I'm still recovering (financially) from Thailand this winter...

I may be able to make it though depending on time and location.

Just like Mick said, the further West it is the better a chance I'll have of making it :P

Excellent sentiment! Thread title changed accordingly. :)

The fawkesy lady has suggested Smith, and money is tight for a few of us. How about something east-ish around autumn? Leaves will be changing, so it will be pretty.

Mick - do your wife and/or kiddos climb? Depending on the weekend that's decided upon, I might have my kiddo (9) in tow. I know that he'd be psyched to have other kids around to play with.

Doh, fiend posted before me. I'm kinda in the middle, so east or west will be about the same for me.

Amber,

I could probably bring my oldest two (Alyssa will be 9 in June and Justin will be 8 in September); I'm sure they'd love to go on a climbing trip with Daddy and I promised them I'm start taking them more this year. Jen's got "height issues", so she prefers to boulder; but we have three kids under 4, so she'll probably stay home to wrestle them.

The Red or The New would great from my point of view, but I might be able to make it as far west as the front range ~ probably no further than that though.

Either way, I miss all you guys and will do whatever I can to hang out w/ you all again.

I wish... I think it's something like a 40 hour drive to their place in Long Beach from here.

I think we'd have to go with someplace central. I don't know that I'll be able to fly anywhere. Utah may be a good place to go back to, I was wanting to go to Joe's Valley anyways and could combine that with this deal. I haven't climbed in Colorado either.

If it's this year I'd prefer the east too. If it's next year I could make the west.

Man this is going to be a logistics nightmare.

I say bring the kids, we can use them as sherpas and waiters/waitresses then send them to bed when the Bop-It gets too rowdy. I haven't Bopped-It in like forever.

We could always commandeer the Rumney gathering in October. Jules is supposed to be away at school so it would be an excuse for her to go home and be joined by all the long timers :righton:

Mark, where are you now? I thought you were in Ontario. That would make a trip on the east easier for you.

Let's not forget that Rob & T will probably have some input on this as well :D. Amber, have you talked to them to see what they think?

Come on Mark, you're not gonna let a little 40-hour, 53-minute car ride scare you off are you? That's all Yahoo! says it will take you to get to The Red. Yikes!!! That's a bit of a hike, alright.

Grant, why do you think Jen and I had so many kids? We're way ahead of you on the "Sherpa" train of thought, heck at this rate, I'll never have to carry anything again :).

Mick, Cool Deal!

Okay, so for locations, we have:

Smith Rock, located in OR. Sport Climbing Mecca for the NW US! Over 1,000 routes, mostly bolted sport climbs, some Aid, and many good traditional climbs. offers camping and climbing, $3 day-use fee

Joe's Valley, located near San Raf Swell, UT. Remote, pretty and boasts Utah's hottest bouldering with smooth sandstone, more boulders than you can imagine, slab, face, overhang, pockets, edges, slopers, jugs, good landings, free camping, free access. Best problems are V5 or higher

Bishop, CA. peaks, sport climbing, and world class bouldering. plenty to do/see. buttermilks is the world's ouldering playground, over 60 roped routes, and scrumbling too.

The Red, kentucky - The Red has a fine line of Trad, Sport, and bouldering. A definite stop on the climbing circuit and a lifetime quantity of routes. Plus the best pizza in the world can be found at Miguel's along with a "climber's only" campground.

The New, Deep in the heart of West Virginia. Gorgeous natural setting, breathtaking vistas and echoes of a vanishing past; an incredible setting for over 1,500 climbs. Once known as the Crack Climbing Capitol of the East Coast, it underwent a sport-climbing transformation in the last three decades of the 20th century, evolving into a tantalizing mix of trad and bolted lines to eventually become a "destination crag" for climbers from around the globe. Most routes are 5.9+

Colorado - More climbs than you can shake a stick-clip at. South Platte, granite cracks. Eldo, scary but solid sandstone. Bolted Canyon, trad and sport, roadside fun. RMNP, and the list goes on. Camping can be a pain, but I can supposed we could always find out the max occupancy of my place. heh.

Vedauwoo isnt terribly far away, if you're looking for a weekend of masochistic crack-time fun. :)

Squamish, eh. great summer conditions with trad, sport and bouldering

HMMM and Canada is 20% off to "Merricans.

I agree that R & T should have a major call on this although lets try and keep in mind some of the following criteria:
-Where will the majority be coming from
-Is the East/West aspect going to exclude anyone (I hope not :( )
-Will there be someones place to stay at
-Will there be easy options/pick ups for the birds flying in
-A good mix of sport, trad, bouldering, multi-pitch etc nearby

-And no death penalty for anyone convicted of being a Jack-ass.

Mick, I talked with Robert about it. They seemed psyched but didnt mention any specific can/cant do's/dont's. I know that they'll be out and about June and July, but it's sounding like autumn will be best anyways for timing. I'm sure that they'll get online at some point and throw in their .02.

Mark, 40 hours? Come on, that's less than two days in the car. pfft. I thought you were the road trip king. :)

Yay, what fun! And, dom, if you're coming, bring my quickdraws. tee hee hee.

I do miss the Red sometimes but I can only afford one trip this fall and I used to climb at the RRG all the time. I'd like to go some place new, or at least hit a new place before/after the gathering.

We need someone to write gathering software. Everyone who wishes to attend can punch in their home location, their climbing preference (ie: bouldering > trad > sport) and whether they can afford to fly or not. The program then takes all of the climbing area data from N. America and spits out the best location for everyone to meet. Why do your own thinking when computers can do it for you? :P

Seriously though, this is all time dependant as well. As I mentioned to Amber in a PM, I don't think I can afford to go anywhere until the fall.

AWWWWWWW!!!

too cool.

of course we'd be totally up for this.

We've got to concider financial issues of some, I'm sure.

If anything (like amber's issue of NH) put together a fund.
for some to dip into???

It's gotta help some, in some way to get to wherever we all choose.

Even if it's 5bucks(???) a week...aside for others...
it adds up for someone.
ya know?

I'd love to see EVERYONE!!!
this is the true strength that helped us thru the hardest time in OUR lives!!
As well as some of your own, hard roads.

ya know?

woot

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

and polish is allready on my list :) to buy.

who's gon na win...worst feet?

Camhead?????

or we can ALL have gross feet and see who's is worse.

oh the joy!!

Okay, so for locations, we have:

Rumney: Scene of Ambers emotional trauma, blue toes, froo froo's, and team Grant breakfasts.
There's also sport of all grades, some trad routes, bouldering opportunities, and for those seeking multi-pitch adventure there is Cannon Cliff just a short drive up the road.

And for those romantically inclined (Rob & T  ) there is always leaf peeper season.

Mark, have you ever climbed in WV? Seneca, NRP, The New? Those all have good clip-ups and trad for before, during and/or after a gathering. Just a thought.
