Listen, I have never been to JTree, but am planning on going next week...(May5-15). It looks like the weather will include highs in the mid 80's. Is this too hot to climb in JTree or...with over 5000 routes, do you think I may be able to escape the sun (west facing in AM, east in PM, etc...). Any solid help and/or smartass comments would be greatly appreciated...(can you distinguish between the two, however?).
Thanks

you'll be ok if the temp in the town of joshua tree is in the 80's. i've found it to be on average 5 to 10 degrees cooler in the main part of the park then in town. there's tons of stuff to climb both in the sun and in the shade. if you get the new guide book with the 60 favorite climbs from 5.5 to 5.9 then it tells you whether or not each climb is in the sun or shade which can help you plan which climbs to do based on the weather. just remember to bring lots of water and clothing for a wide range of temps. the weather can change pretty fast there.

have fun!

Just got back yesterday. Temps were in no way too warm, spent more time trying to stay out of the wind so as not to freeze.
