In reply to: In reply to: In reply to: rather than reinforcing an elitist standpoint on trad climbing that many climbers would like to shake...blah, blah, blah I personally want to propagate the elitist standpoint on trad climbing to even higher levels. Besides, I know all about cams. http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=52301 That had to have been placed by an aid climber. Bomber... WTF fshizzle! It looks like the friend is being used sideways as a chock to redirect a belay! My eyes aren't that good, but it appears to also have a cordalette hanging off the friend....perhaps a leg of an anchor? Very creative and sick! S-man

As you have learned cams and hexs are types of pro. The best way to get started in trad is to do some reading (John Long has some great books) then take a lesson or two. Doing a little aid climbing will also help. The most important thing to have is knowledge about the gear, how to use it and its limitations. Most of the time gear does not fail. Disaster happens when gear is used improperly so practice safe then as you feel more comfortable you can start to push your limits.
