Wasn't sure which forum would be appropriate... I'm going to be in GA and want to check out the Tallulah Gorge. I was wondering if you guys would be able to suggest guides that you climbed with. Only thing I found on line was GA adventures. Any experiences with them?

Give my friend Scott Perkins a call (770-757-5512). He's a great guy, and a knowledgable and safe guide. He knows Tallulah Gorge very well and will give you a great experience. PM me if you want to give me a call or need more info.

Yeah, I was also gonna suggest Scott Perkins. He guides in Tallulah Gorge a lot and also Whitesides and others. He's super experienced and safe. The number I have for him is same as above post.

Curahee sucks it. There's like one ok mantle route, but it isn't worth the drive. Maybe there are some hidden boulders somewhere, but the routes off that main granite face bite. Tallulah is the place to go, but only if you climb 5.10 or better trad. Go before it gets too hot. Have ya'll ever seen that movie with all the open boaters getting trashed in there? Can't remember the name, but its Fantastic!! Oceana is amazing!

I can recommend a guide... Scott Perkins. He is an excellent guide and instructor. I've hired him to climb in Tallulah Gorge and Whiteside Mountain in NC. I've also taken a lead climbing course from him. Scott can be reached at 770-757-5512. Have fun.

there are climbs in Talullah that you can climb even if you are not a 5.10 climber. Mescaline Daydream is (old school) 5.8, and a great climb for anyone. Scott Perkins is a friend of mine, so I'm little biased, but you won't find a nicer guy and he is an outstanding climber. He also knows a good shortcut into the climbs at Tallulah. He's been an AMA guide for many years. The only bad thing I can say about Scott is that he doesn't like mexican food.

T-Gorge is a fantastic place to climb, but I find the rock and routes there somewhat "different" from nearly anywhere else I've climbed. The quartsite is extremely fine-grained and cams tend to walk a little more and gear placements overall seem to be a little less intuitive than other areas. Couple that with the fact that you downclimb to get to the base, that many of the routes are multi-pitch, etc. leads me to suggest anyone who's not familar with this area (particularly if you're just visiting for a day or two) consider getting a guide. You'll spend much more time climbing as opposed to brush-thrashing and wondering "where the heck am I". I'm friends with a number of the guides around here, and while there are a lot of qualified folks, I don't think you could go wrong with Scott. If you've got more time, get Scott to take you up to climb granite on Whitesides or Big Green. The other advantage of using Scott is that he's actually a quite accomplished professional photographer ... has gotten a number of photos published all around. In summary, I've climbed all around and T-Gorge is a very unique place. If you ever consider using a guide anywhere, T-Gorge is the place to do it. Have fun ... and be sure to watch Deliverance right before you come down to climb ... the key climbing scenes were shot there in T-Gorge. Hopefully you'll have more luck dodging the locals that Ed Betty did! Best Wishes, Clay Sykes/Atlanta

I live in Tallulah Falls, where climbing partners are at a perpetual premium. I don't guide, but I've led most of the moderates a number of times and I know my way around the gorge pretty well. So, if you want to partner up for a day, let me know. E Parker
