I posted a couple questions about why I was having trouble installing FIXE bolts...My question was answered, but that thread is here: http://www.rockclimbing.com/...iewtopic.php?t=68739 Also I sent an e-mail to FIXE before I knew why my bolts weren't working: ----- Original Message ----- From: The Dude To: fixehardware@mindspring.com Sent: Sunday, April 10, 2005 1:01 PM Subject: Wedge Bolt Binding I am trying to place the 3/8" x 3 3/4" SS double wedge bolt. The bolt sleeves bind when going into the hole. I've tried brand new Milwaukee 3/8 and Bosch 3/8. The drill is a Bosch 11524. The holes were clean and dust free. I've already ruined 30$ worth of bolts trying to figure out why your bolts won't seat correctly. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks, Ed Willson This is what I received: ----- Original Message ----- From: FIXE Hardware To: The Dude Sent: Thursday, April 28, 2005 11:23 PM Subject: Re: Wedge Bolt Binding Hello Ed, Sorry for the delay- we have been buy and moving our office. The FIXE wedge bolts are made with a 3/8" expansion wedge specifically for the US, the rod stock of the overall bolt is the same as the metric version. Because of this, they can become difficult to place in hard stone or when the shoulders of the bit are wore down. Let me know how many bolts were unsuccessful and your address and I will send replacements as well as a couple of 10mm bits to make things easier. Sorry for any inconvenience, Trevor @ FIXE Okay...So I sent Trevor my address..and today I received two new 10mm bits and 5 new bolts. I just wanted to let the people at RC.com know what kind of company FIXE is. Thanks FIXE, Skymeat:)

In reply to: Wow, awesome. Not to knock them sending more bolts, but the question of why they are not working did not get answered. Which means more problems with the next set of bolts?

What this means is that you need to use a newer/not worn 3/8" OR a 10mm bit to place the bolts. I have only had this problem myself in very hard rock.

I`ve always had a good run with Fixe hardware so to see their customer service working effectively just confirms to me that they are an awesome company to deal with.

Very good of them to re-supply you with new bolts and bits. Top notch service. I have had trouble with their "3/8" bolts too. I want to know why they are selling a bolt as 3/8 when it's not? 10mm = .397 inch 3/8" = .375 inch In hard granite that difference is enough to stop you dead in your tracks. And when you realize what's going on you have a bolt that's halfway in it's hole and is not coming out. I suppose that's not too big of a problem for roadside rap bolting, but it happened to me in the middle of nowhere on a big lead. No fun and boy was I pissed.. Five Piece Rawls for me these days...
