Ed Viesturs summited Annapurna today - becoming the first American to summit all 14 8000 meter summits on earth. All without oxygen.

skibabeage moved this thread from World Climbing News to General.

I dunno Skibabeage, surely a more appropriate forum for this thread would be "Attention Whores"?

The guy’s amazing.

Totally stoked for him and dig his style.

“Getting to the top is optional, but getting down is mandatory. A lot of people get focused on the summit and forget that.”

“There isn’t a mountain on earth that I’m willing to lose even the tip of my pinky from frostbite for”

The article said that he was the 'first American.' Which non-americans have accomplished this awesome feat?

Here's all the info:
http://www.everestnews.com/8000.htm

This one person (Jerzy Kukuczka) did it in only 8 years, that's almost 2 sucessful 8000m summits per year!

what I read said that Reinhold Messner was first - in 1986 - and about 12 others have done it

I was under the impression that he hadn't climbed Shishangpangma. Is this wrong? In any case, it's an amazing accomplishment and congratulations are due.

He climbed it once, didnt get quite to the very tippy top, then did it again to appease the naysayers.
