Robert :robert: / T,

Have you guys had a chance to do any research on climbing locations in the east that you may want to use for the gathering? I think the sooner that we can get the specifics hammered down, the better. That will also give us a chance to see how many people might need some help in getting there, so we can set up some sort of travel fund to help offset some of the costs for those who need it.

The list of well-known good spots out east that are large enough and varied enough to suit most (I'm sure I'll miss some) are:

The Red River Gorge in Kentucky
The New River Gorge in West Virginia
Seneca/Nelson Rocks Preserve in West Virginia
Rumney in New Hampshire
The Gunks in New York
Looking Glass/Rumbling Bald in North Carolina

All have kick ass climbing for both clippers and pluggers alike. Now, given the time frame, the further south we go, the more comfortable we're likely to be.

Just some thoughts on it.

For what it's worth, I'm hoping y'all combine the get-together either with the Rumney meet, or with the J/T meet next spring. For various reasons, I've already over-spent my vacation for this year (including the week in Rumney), or I'll be working long days for a while to catch up.

As in, I'd love to hit up some of the other eastern climbing locations, but I'd also like to hit up Rumney again.

So I think what I'm saying is..

Ahhhw, screw it - I'll go with the flow, and see what happens. :)

I'll be there, kilt, blue toes and all...

And... GRANT, Don't give up on us quite yet! :(

The Gunks is great in October... In fact, that's probably the most beautiful time with all the Fall colors.

Only think is, the Gunks is not a "clippers" place.

Rumbling Bald is a beautiful plaace, as is Looking Glass, but not good for camping... Especially at RB.

Good point on the Gunks not being for clippers ~ forgot about that.

I thought the camping at Looking Glass was AWESOME, that's what kept us coming back. There's a great pull-off to the left as you head up the gravel road to the trailheads. It's near a stream and has large campsites that could easily accomodate up to 10 tents.

I've not been to Rumney or the Gunks, so I would love to have a good reason to get up there and check those spots out. Either way, I'm definitely in.

It may have become official in Salt Lake City, but I think some solid roots were established in the Gunks :p
