i was invited on a camping trip out there and i was looking at some websites. i noticed that there are some huge limestone cliffs in the background of the park. Is climbing prohibited out there, or do any locals know what the condition of the rock is? i would love to get out there and climb! ***edit typoo

going to Garner next month, used to go every year as a kid. The face you are most likely looking at is called old baldie. plenty big to climb, I haven't ben out there since I started climbing but I am taking my gear for sure when I go. I doubt very seriously if there are any bolts but there is a ttrail to the top, along with some caves, great bouldering for sure. I doubt if climbing is prohibited b/c eveyr fucking year some druken idiot falls off that damn thing and they have yet to close the trail to the top. Not sure about trees, rocks, cracks at top to anchor off of, since I don't have a trad rack I am planning on about three 50ft lengths of web to see if I can set up some anchors on whatever I find that looks bomber. Might be a little choosy but I don't think so, seems like It was great rock but at 13 yrs old I would climb just about anything not knowing of the dangers I was putting myself in. when are you going? I don't have a confirmed belyer/partner as of yet.... -Jason

I remember reading in an old "Texas Parks and Wildlife" mag about at search and rescue competition being held there. Might wanna look over that, if you can find it.

went fishing with moms this weekend. I am not going until aug 18th. So if anyone from the Austin or surrounding areas is up for it... Flood, don't pass up the opportunity to go to Ganrner even if you don't climb. I have been to EVERY state park in Texas...Garner is hands down the best. I mean 100 degree weather and a river named the FRIO for gods sake!!
