OK this might as well be the place and the time! The Little Big Announcement! Next week I will be soloing a little wall, with the knowledge Pete has so graciously and patiently given to me! Here is a topo, http://www.stanford.edu/~clint/index/dragon99.gif I am going to bivy under the roof at the top of the third pitch, even if I finish it in a day! I will get back to you after that... but before that I'll let you know Pete, that there is no way I would ever have believed one year ago that I would ever even climb another wall... let alone solo it! I wouldn't have tried without your help! I have been practicing, too much, and I'm more than ready (I shoulda done it before it got hot!). Wish me luck Jeff

Heaven freakin' help you if you DON'T make it, mate! You have put your ego on the line! Good luck, bring your Dr. Piton notes! This is Jeff: "Lessee now, how do I do that thing again...." {leaf! leaf! leaf through the notes!} "Aha! Here it is! The Better Way!" Jeff really does carry some of my notes with him to the crag.... And Dr. Piton is very flattered by this.

I'm so stoked!!! Thank you all! Tom, The Green Drag-on (as it was originally named) is on the Index Town Walls, Fred Beckey's playground. I can't find you a good pic, where's Jake when I need him! It will be the longest block of aid leading I have ever done, and somehow Pete convinced me to solo it! I've never lead more than two pitches in a row. Gotta get back to borrowing, I don't have enough cams, especially large ones! Smithclimber where are you too? This will be a grief driven climb in memorium and I will not come down 'til it's done!!! Jeff

Awesome Jeff!! whats the day? two reasons...I will be there on Thur for sure and prob Tue, and me and a buddy were talking about simul soloing TC and GD, so we don't want to pick your days! Awesome route to pick for this area...I assume you will do the aid start...I am not too psyched about aiding the first 2 pitches of TC, but it has to be done! hgb

Holly, I am hauling gear in on Monday and I am going up Tuesday and Wednesday, I think I am going to haul the whole thing and walk out the road instead of leaving the bags at the roof and rapping then pounding my way back down the trail. Tough decision (opinions welcome). I am more than willing to share the route, and would welcome the company! Besides I can give you my camera!?! And yes, I am aiding the whole thing (except the last pitch of 4th), and using the original more direct start not the one on the topo (it adds 55' to the route, and is supposed to be funner). So it looks like I can cross you off the list of people to borrow from? Have fun yourself, looks like you've learned the system without my help, good for you! Soloing is exploding, can you imagine it three soloists on the Town Walls at once!?! Jeff

I just got off that wall. I failed on the 4th pitch of Golden Arch. It's A3+ and I didn't feel like risking a fall and getting hurt with Squamish next week. I also couldn't get my hooks to stay. As for Green Dragon I don't have any good photos of it. After Squamish I'm going to solo it. I think it looks pretty tame but very cool. The upper town wall is very cool. The 3rd pitch of the arch is awesome. Everyone Index aid climber should try it. My partner lead it and I will go back sometime to lead it. It is that cool. Good luck Jeff and have fun. Hey, Thank you all for your good wishes... But I will not be climbing this route any time soon. I got up to the base late last night, only to discover I had no lead rope (how stupid is that?), in the mad shuffle to come up with a ride it wasn't packed. Aid climbing is a lot of work, aid climbing solo is even more work, without the extra hassles created by not having wheels. And aid climbing is all I have been doing for a long time now (I've only gone free climbing twice this year, and the last time was May 19th). I've put in 16 pitches of aid solo though. I am going to put away my aid gear for a little while, and get in some fun free climbing that will enrich my climbing soul, it so needs it, until I feel like going aid climbing. Right now I feel like my climbing has been so goal oriented, "gotta climb a wall solo", that I have totally lost focus... Climbing needs to be my hobby not my identity! I hope I haven't dissappointed any of you half as much as I have dissappointed myself. Jeff

Dude, don't worry about it. The wall probably isn't going anywhere soon. If you aren't feeling it just do it later when you are. Now go have some fun.
