Why are the standards so low in Ontario? We should be embarrassed. Compared to other parts of Canada or the US our free climbing standards are really low. We've come to a place where we top-rope our cliffs to death. We've become satisfied leading 5.6 or 5.7 on trad gear. Even our sport climbers are stuck in 10c.... you know who you are! Wake up people and don't be afraid to stick your neck out! Thanks, I feel better...... :D

So......what do YOU climb? I'm just getting started so I can't spray...I mean...climb anything difficult....yet. Fun's the name of the game anyway. I think you'll find that a lot of climbers stop trying harder once the fun is gone for them. Personally, I'm not having fun unless I'm pushing my personal limits, unless I'm doing something with the kids. We'll see how far it goes.

That's crazy talk! I've been climbing in norther ontario around Thunder Bay and verything there is so sand-baged its ridculous, a 10c there is like a 11a in Squamish! There are some hard climbers there with a bold ground up ethic. Not too mention Sonnie Trotter who is from Ontario, and there are some pretty difficult routes up at Lion's head, and I've seen plenty of climbers on those! Just because everyone climbing at Rattlesnake point is a weiner does not mean the whole province is like that!

What's wrong with leading 5.6/5.7 on trad? And really who gives a flying fuck? You climb what you want to climb and I will climb what I want. You are an idiot. Plain and simple.

In reply to: Why are the standards so low in Ontario? Yep, only three 5.14's; proportionately more 5.13's; not even sure how many 5.12's. Don't worry about running out of 5.11's. Oh and a handful of 5.6's. Them's some real low standards
In reply to: We should be embarrassed. Compared to other parts of Canada or the US our free climbing standards are really low. We've come to a place where we top-rope our cliffs to death. We should be embarrassed, some of our free climbing cliffs are only 30ft high. That's low. Actually there is a fair bit of top roping. Bloody beginners.
In reply to: We've become satisfied leading 5.6 or 5.7 on trad gear. And satisfied with 5.4's; 5.5's; 6's; 7's; 8's; 9's are real satisfying when they are old school..... you get the picture.
In reply to: Even our sport climbers are stuck in 10c.... you know who you are! Well obviously not me but you should meet some of my friends. Just don't ask ME for an introduction.
In reply to: Wake up people and don't be afraid to stick your neck out! I sense you have never seen Ultrahooker, or Where Ego's Dare.
In reply to: Thanks, I feel better...... :D You know you could have saved us all some time and just called for a WAAAA-mbulance. Next time remember the number Nine-WAA-WAA. Now I have to take a step back and say that the comments I have made above are out of the norm for me. Well at least to folks I don't know. My climbing partners get such treatment whenever they deserve it. To be honest though, they are just as ridiculous as the quotes... well nearly. It seems to me that either prometheus has some sort of chip on his shoulder or else really isn't that familiar with both Ontario climbing and Ontario climbers. The thing is that it really doesn't matter. Everyone has an opinion. Rarely do they matter. Mine will make as little difference as any another in this thread.
In reply to: You are an idiot. Plain and simple. :D :D :D Yep, he is. Me too.

Should not it ask: "Why does everyone in Ontario suck?" I do not suck in Ontario...I suck in Oklahoma.

There are lots of strong climbers in Ontario. They just don't climb with you. (Most of the hard routes aren't at the crags in the guidebooks).

Have you climbed in Ontario lately? We have consistently had hard routes go up each year. In fact what many believe to be the hardest route in the country is situated in Ontario and was climbed by an Ontarian. Further more many of the problems that have gone at the Glen is evidence of significant advancement of our sport here in the province. These problems are at the high end of bouldering at any location. More over, many Ontarians have been climbing relatively hard away from home, take the Red River Gorge for insistence, at almost any given weekend there are many people from Ontario climbing hard routes (5.12 + range). Your statements “Why does everyone suck in Ontario?” and “We should be embarrassed” are false. Even if everyone in Ontario did suck, why should we feel embarrassed? Comparing our selves to other so-called standards only drains the energies of the community. Rather let us look at what we have to offer. We have many beautiful and challenging climbing locations, at these locations you can always count on friendly people to climb around and in the small towns which are near by. We have some of the most profoundly difficult routes in the country in both Sport and Trad climbing, with many climbs being unrepeated (and climbed by Ontarians I may add). So please take a moment to ponder what we have to offer before making such statements. Thank you -Aaron

hummm, my experience from being there for 6-8 weeks was that there are some brutally strong sport climbers in the Toronto area, and plenty of brutally hard climbs to keep them busy. maybe you're not hanging out with the right crowd??

Northern Ontario is only 1 hour's drive for me, so I have been traveling and climbing in Ontario for 20 years. I have yet to meet an Ontario climber that "sucks". Additionally, there are routes of all levels available. Some a short hike from a road, some you have bushwhack your way to.

There are plenty of technical climbs in Ontario and lots of climbers to go with it. And even if there were not hard climbs there that does not automatically make the people who climb them bad climbers. I know kick ass climbers from Saskatchewan and there are exactly a plenitude of 5.14 multi pitch there.

Rock in Southern Ontario sucks big time and the trad climbers know it. I like my live so I will go step by step abd do harder climbs later or I will go climbing at Gunks or Cathedral to do my 5.8 or 5.9 trad lead. On the other hand: A few months ago I saw a guy from rock oasis top roping 5.7 while showing off and down climbing 5.10c in the gym. What a looser. ONTARIO ROYALY SUCKS get used to it man. We have jobs and that would be it. Good day

Well I suck in the gym I suck in Japan I have sucked in squamish and will suck there again this summer and most likely will suck in Ontario this summer when I climb in my home province for the first time. I may go to the gunks I most likley will suck there...........I will always suck no matter how good i get thats the fun thing about climbing there is always rock better then you..its about pushing yourself at your own pace not at someonelses. The only standard accross the board should be your safety and those of who you climb with or climb above or bellow for that matter.
