Does anyone have any updates on this. I have heard you can drive into some of it but can you drive as far as Cat's Slab. Me and my partner were looking to climb there.

You can drive into the Canyon but for recreational use only. You can only enter the canyon by making a right turn (so go south on 93 and turn right onto 6). You have to talk to the police or construction worker at the entrance. Tell them you are there to climb. You have to be out of the Canyon by 8:00 pm or they will tow your car. Enjoy the climbing out there while you can without all the noise from the road. Kinda nice.

You can only drive to tunnel 3 from the Golden side but you can get to Cat Slabs from the other entrance off of I-70.

On the evening news tonight, they said that CDOT doesn't think the canyon will be fully open until mid-September.....

I hear it is oficially closed now, to climbers et all. Can anyone confirm this? My friend went to climb there on Saturday and they told him that on Friday night some climbers went over some ridge to climb in an area beyond the barrier. In doing so they got too close to where they store their dynamite and stuff. So they're not letting anybody else climb anymore. Has anyone been up there since the weekend?

I and several friends climbed there on Sunday. There were tons of people in the Canyon. Great place to be while the huge trucks and Blackhawk buses aren't roaring up and down the Canyon.

I was there Sunday afternoon; no problems. It would really suck if some a$$hole ruined what has been a very cool policy of letting recreational users in despite the slide by trying to sidestep the limits they have put on that use.

Apparently, it was the "hikers" that caused the problem. From the Daily Camera:
In reply to: CDOT closed the canyon to hikers because of some problems with individuals walking in the road or trying to skirt barricades. "A few spoiled it for the many," Cox said. "The climbers have not created a problem. If they do, I will eliminate that." Fairly warned! Dan
