may i ask; what is the prefrence for a haul line that will also be used for rapping? for example: soloing. i was thinking in that instance it might be best to go with something burly like a bluewater 7/16" static.

thats something i've thought about, but wouldn't a thick static line be allot more fun to haul with than a retired dynamic line?

well cool then, thanks for the advice. i have a 9.8x70m maxim rope that i'm retiring, i guess it'll become my new haul line. fyi: i'm retiring this rope due to the fact that it sucks bawlz. no matter what i do it twists up like a mfer. i've never done anything to introduce twists in it and i've done everything i can to get them out. this rope just sucks, end of story. i'll have to get one of those petzl swivle thingy's.

for me, the thickness of the ropes on a wall play a large part on my mental state... without a partner to tell you that the rope is not going to cut, then its nice to have fatter cords... -- and no matter how careful you are, you will end up running your rap line over the rock on a big wall solo -- its hard to avoid as you pull yourself back into the belay. .. i haul with a thick bluewater rope 10.6mm .. after 2 solo walls, its actually quite a bit glazed .. (must be from heat buildup free-hanging rappels) .. i dont think i'd have the heart to do a free hanging rappel on a 8mm single line on a big-wall solo.

here, here, Ricardol! I'm hauling with 235' of 11mm mammut typeA static... a little long so I can haul from the top of P2, plus any others that might be linkable. Free-hanging hauls and jugs are not quite so much mental stress, that's for darn sure. I'm always questioning whether the weight trade off is worth it, but I always come 'round to the same "Hell Yes!" answer. On the flip side, some 8mm static line has been flirting with me lately, though I've been sloughing off her advances so far. Perhaps i'll have to give 'er a go... can't be any worse than a moped, huh? It's effin' hard to think about bouncing around while jugging free 1500 feet off the deck on that stuff though. *wince* kind of makes my brain hurt luckily too, I'm NOT sponsored, so there's little risk anyone will be dumping a couple of hundred feet of that skinny+light stuff in my lap any time soon.

oh yeah ... for sure .. make the haul line pretty long .. mine is about 68 meters.. (~224 feet) .. use the extra cord to lower out the bag.
