A nice little fall taken by Rob while climbing The Tube in Yosemite. He hit a big knob on the way down causing him to flip.

He was caught by a bomber nut. I was hanging on a seperate line taking photos while he was leading. Here's the same route: http://www.rockclimbing.com/...n=Show&PhotoID=56331 He escaped relatively unscathed - a sprained ankle, road rash on his back and bruised pride.

Bruised pride? that fall was awesome! i'd be super amped to have a fall like that on video... I'll bet it was pretty un-nerving though. Anyway, awesome clip! I'm glad he limped away from that one...

hosh.

Wow! Does he have any finger tips left? Glad he had solid pro there. Awesome shot though.

Bear with me as someone who's just learning trad leading, and try not to flame me for this question! :!:

It's hard to tell exactly what's going on by looking at this photo/movie, but it looks to me like the climber is about 8-10 ft. above his last pro. Is that the case? If so, would it not have been better for him to have placed more gear, or is that just not practical on this particular route?

Thanks for any clarification.

I guess there's a fine line between going for it and pulling through vs placing protection and potentially flaming out... This is the crux of the route. The crack gets very tiny here, I suppose you could finagle some tiny wireds in. Once through the crux you get more gear opportunities again.

This is an animated gif of a sequence of photos I got.

Thanks, I had a feeling there was a good reason why he hadn't plugged anything in there, it does look lie a pretty thin crack.

Great picture sequence, by the way!

Pretty cool!

What kind of camera can shoot that fast? And at what resolution?

Note: we see the jug line on the pics. I suppose it wasn't planned :)

If I had that kinda gear i would've used it for the 1st pic i posted to
RC.com (another fall on Atlantis, Needles), here:

http://www.rockclimbing.com/photos.php?Action=Show&PhotoID=57561

Cheers!

It looked like he just slided down until he hit the knob.

Did he reclaim his nut or did he 'fix' it?
