Christian Climbers

I am a Christian who loves climbing, in that order. I did a quick search and I know there are others out there like me. I'm so thankful for what God did for me and would like to voice that. And I figure I'm safe in saying this because every other topic under the sun is disccused on this website (including quite a bit about ham sandwiches). I'm sure this will get plenty of "not this thread again..."'s but oh well. I just know there are *gasp* better things to life than climbing!

Jesus Christ, God, being a SON of God, eternal life, the ministry of reconciliation, and lots lots more!

I know that there are others like me out there and I'm so thankful for that. People who are my brothers and sisters in Christ! People with whom I will spend eternity! Man that's awesome. It makes me just overflow with joy like NO day at the crag ever could.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord FOREVER!!!!!

climbing = good
God = better

Sometimes i find that the best times to get close to God isn't at a rambunctious College Worship night but just bringing a bible bouldering :D

Right on bro!
...I get that stoked just thinking about how this is all an enormous science experiment, that I am just a flea on the back of a flea on the back of a flea...
that there is no "GOD" outside of my mind, and seriously love just feeling very tiny and alone within this universe while laying on the top of a boulder staring at the sky.

Find your joy where you can!!!!

Wow, another overzealous religious type that wants nothing more than to protest personal faith blah blah blah

Climbing = Better, cause it is real

You said yours, I had to say mine

What the heck is wrong with his post? Did he "press it on" you to click on this post? Get off your self-righteous high horse. I too would love to find other Christian climbers and the only way to find them is to advertise that I'm one too. So here I am another Christian. Does mentioning that I'm a Christian mean I'm pushing it on you? No. In fact, you don't even have to read my post. In case you missed it, it's free country. What about tolerance? I bet you're really quick to ask for tolerance when people disagree with you. Why don't you just leave this guy alone and let him believe what he likes/loves to believe?

It doesn't feel like a free country when people have to shove the words "shut up" down your throat just for saying you're a Christian. I'm a Christian too. Seminary trained, Greek reading Christian of the Evangelical kind. I'd love to be able to say that just as freely as homosexuals say they are gay. But for some reason people take offense simply because we exist. Why don't we try to show some respect for other people even though they're different. There's a lot worse things to chew people out for like child abuse or ruining the environment. But to chew someone out for being a Christian is just plain goofy.

Christian and proud of it.

Very interesting that some people get so fired up and even angry when someone states his beliefs. I wonder if the reaction would be so inflammatory if he were promoting a gay lifestyle or a belief in Allah, Buddha, Krishna, etc. I doubt it.... If you hate a certain set of beliefs so much don't look at the post! When you get spam e-mail about "men on men" porn sites do you visit those too?

As both a practicing Christian and a climber I find this post just plain odd. Why would you post to RC.com to in essense, condescend to people who don't share your beliefs?

But more to the point, I for one think its worth speaking out against the "gee Whiz, awesome man!" approach to the Christian faith apparent above.

As of late the word "Christian" has come to mean someone who has a mindless, simplistic faith, that is paradoxically mingled with nationalism and militarism. A meaning that I would very much like to change.

Faith in Christ, devoting one's life to his teaching and serious study of sacred texts are all noble and good things . . .

BUT I hope that it is not too much to ask that when representing one's faith in public it be done with intellegence, class, and respect for others. All things that the OP lacks.

Actually, the gays get bashed on pretty bad here too :?
I am also a christian, but not exactly what would be considered 'model' (very very far from it, in a traditional sense).
Something that tends to be an issue amongst christian is that of, shall we say colorfull, language. I and most of the people I climb with generally have a bit of a blue haze around us. Just wondering, how do you guys approach this subject, for yourselves and others?

Hey justineus, I totally hear you. My motto is Carpe Saxum. I think that it means seize the Rock. In my world that's means two things. Seize the rock and seize the ROCK. I can truthfully and honestly say that I am nothing without my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! It's really great to hear that there are others with the same duel passion ( I don't know any Christian climbers except my wife,hehe). justineus, read Matt 1:1-13 and keep watch! He's coming! Oh, and I'm sure we'll meet when he does. God Bless!

FYI, I wasn't concerned about making a point about gays except that sometimes it seems like people who don't fit the "normal" mode are simply not to be tolerated. I think that there was nothing wrong or tactless about the original poster stating that he'd like to find other Christians. The very fact that he said this proves that he's not reaching out to anyone else but other Christians. There was no "pushing his views" on other people. That's all I was concerned to make a point of. I would never force someone to listen to me, but I'm certainly open about what I believe. This person only wished to share his enthusiasm about meeting other Christians and that's all. No harm done in that.

As far as your question is concerned, I'd love to discuss it off of the thread because I don't want to change the topic of the thread--which is to have Christians meeting other Christians. That any non-christian person responded to this post seems to demonstrate that there's this feeling among people that if anyone says "I'm a Christian" they need to be taught that it's not their place to speak in public. That's not fair. Everyone should be able to speak openly in this country about their personal beliefs just like sport climbers need to tolerate (even appreciate) trad climbers.

Thanks for putting up with my rant, ya'll.

You called?

If you can find faith, good for you. If you can't, good for you.

When you star prosletysing and/or smearing other GOOD people by way of your faith, FUCK YOU.

All,

i don't know why everyone's getting so worked up...it's times when i'm climbing in the happies...when the sun is browning my skin much like when christ was in the desert for 40 days conversing with the dark lord...when i think to myself, "wow, look at the beautiful boulders god created for me to climb!..in only 6000 yrs. nonetheless!"...and then i get a flapper down to my elbow...and i think, dear god...you're such a great god...i know this flapper is nothing compared to having a rusty nail driven through your hand...but please keep me from getting infected...and the lord in all his grace answers...and i'm able to show no sings of terror the rest of the night...until i hit the shower...and it's in times like this, that i like to make recouse to my favorite christian fiction work of all time: the king james bible...and it is here, that i like.... to thank the lord for ensuring that good god fearin' folks such as myself, justineus and co., and pretty much the entire bible belt of the u.s...is guaranteed a life of eternal salvation, TOGETHER!...b/c i know that being in the company of these fine people and every other f'ckin boyscout who ever lived could only be construed as eternal paradise, and it is there, where we can pity and mock the scores of humans in all of history who went to hell for simply not having the option of accepting the lord jesus into their hearts...yep, sounds like a little slice of heaven to me....in the dessert section of a menu at HELL's IHOP!...and i wonder why the hedonistic bastard corinthians never seemed to write back...i have an idea, if you don't want to get mocked...you should just do what every good christian in today's culture seems to do to spread the word....hijack an existing pop culture phenomenon!..really though, there's christian rock, rap, reggae, country..hell, even christian cook books("How to bake at Hell Hot temps. with Christ...HIMSELF!")...i'm sure one of you computer savvy apostles can make a website called crimpersforchrist.com...where you can all praise the lord, talk about your latest sends and how the holy ghost literally propelled you to the finishing jug...gotta love a free country..my rant is over...there's a swarm of locusts at my door and some old dude with a long beard next door is trying to put my dog on some boat he's making....better start praying to god...where's my king james?...
