I've just really started to get into trad climbing during the last year and I've got a chance to get a really good deal on a whole bunch of 10mm dyneema loops, but I wasn't sure what sizes to get, 24", 48", etc... Let me know what size you use the most when you trad, or what size of loops I might find the most useful for setting up belays and placing gear. I'm sure a variety of lengths is probably good, but I don't really have the experience to know what lengths to get. Thanks.

get a whole bunch of 24" runners, i've taken as many as a dozen on trad climbs before, get a couple of 48" runners as well. if its a really good deal buy some extras. i've manged to leave a couple in rap anchors and loose a couple, so having extras is nice.

In reply to: From your profile... In reply to: Avid trad climber and mountaineer. I want to get into big wall trad. I've been climbing for 4 years. Someone with a tenth of the experience you THINK you have wouldnt ask such a pathetic question like "what size slings will I need to build those anchor thingies." .... I don't understand why rc.com puts up with you selling gear all over their site but I would sooner pay the difference myself than let anyone I know buy gear from you. Right on fooolio. Keep up the good work. Jeff I second that. How can you be a retailer and not know the answer to a question as simple as the one you asked above? Colin

Sometimes I feel the same way as the last two posters do about mr. renhandjams-- But then, I recall that although he is noobish to a high degree, he seems sincere and really has not posted anything nasty, he just posts as if he were trying to learn, and needs to learn a lot. While it's often annoying to read his stuff, keep in mind everybody started out as a noob, and some of the guys we all admire figured this climbing thing out on their own, making tons of dumb mistakes along the way. THey didn;t psot about it cause htere was no internet back then, hehe. To the extent that his advice has been dangerous or truly stupid, I think those posts have been quickly spotted and commented on LOL. I guess time will tell. Maybe Renohandjams will be an energetic, enterprizing, positive attitude kind of guy asset to climbing in general, if he lives through his beginner stage. I sure hope so. In the meanwhile, please remember, climbing mag reviews and climbing with a new piece of gear for a day or two are not the basis for a solid evaluation, and if you constantly need info from people on the internet about climbing, maybe you should re-evaluate your situation.

Thanks for the input on the dyneema sling lengths. When I post stuff like this it is for my own rack and not the shop. I'm not in charge of buying because I would buy all of the wrong stuff, but sometimes I would rather get a couple of opinions rather than just my buyers opinion. I got 6 24" 10mm loops, 1 48" and then one huge 140 cm for setting up an anchor. Without your input I probably would've purchased too many 48" and not enough 24"s. Just starting trad climbing because of our retail store about 3 months ago and I felt pretty good for a noob being able to lead 5.9ish trad. I was put in my place last weekend in Utah when I almost wet myself leading a 5.7 because of the lack of bomber placements and loose rock. I enjoy the sport and I can't wait to get into it even more.
