Usually I go without a helmet, but when I'm doing a lot of overhanging and roof routes, I wish I had a comfortable lid. What do you use if anything?

Nick,

Since helmets are expensive you'll want to buy a helmet that will last a long time. For that I would recommend a fiberglass or composite (like the Dyneema ones).

I have the HB Joe Brown, and I like it very much. After much abuse (I even spiked it after one wall) it still looks good. It is a little heavier than one of those styrofoam ones, but you can't sit on a styrofoam one, or drop your pack on it.

Yeah...I would like to find a lighter composite then the lid I've got. I've got an old school Blue Water that I've had for quite a spell. The hat has saved my melon quite a bit but I think it has been quite antiquated for quite some time. I think the NFL has lighter lids these dayz....

Petzl makes a helmet called the elios which is going to be my next helmet. I still will use my E-roc when doing routes that rockfall is common but the elios will be my overall use helmet.
