Boy, am I hooked! Just started climbing last April, been poking at trad since the RC meeting this summer in Utah when Alpine Rocket took me up the West Slabs of Olympus. Got my beginners rack (set of TCUs 0-4, and ridged friends to 3.5", 2 sets of nuts, 10 regular runners/biners, several QD's from sporting, cord-a-let, 4 double runners etc.)

I'm feeling comfortable leading 5.6's now, and anxious/nervious to jump on some 5.7's.

Anyway - I'm finding that along with route-finding (golly it's cool to wander, but crap it's getting scarey over here - hope it mellows back to 5.6 soon!), along with run-out excitement and pro placement fiddling (I hope something appears soon, that I can pop something bomber into in under 5 minutes) - but now - yea, nice crack - just like the last three that ate up the one that was perfect, the one that was really two small, and the one my follower may never get out.

Geeze, wish I had some double up's (or one of those cow bells) about now! - maybe a couple more moves will open up some nut placements - what's a little more runout?

Wow, what a sport - so many variables to tweak your adrenaline.

Special thanks to many here, who have inspired me and have shared such wonderful experience and knowledge!

Dont forget that you can place nuts on their side, with wild country rocks a size 5 placed sideways is the same width as a 6 and so on for most of the range. I tend to only double up on the smallest of wires which I find I need more than big ones.
