what kind of gear is needed and what are ome basic tips for aid climbing at this grade?

It depends if its clean aid or not. Non-clean aid involves nailing in pitons and etc. Clean aid involves only removable pieces of pro, cams nuts, hooks, and things of that nature. To learn aid you dont need much, get on a 50 foot route with two sets of nuts and a bunch of cams and start plugging away. If you want to do long aid routes your going to want multiple sets of cams, lots of nuts, daiseys, aiders, all that good stuff.

Basicly the route dictates the gear you will need as in with any climb. Be prepared to be buying lots of gear :P

Basicly the thing you need for aid climbing is the ability to make solid placements. If you are a solid leader than this should be no issue. If you aren't go pick up the standard climbing anchors books and start out by bouce testing gear all the way up a route on toprope.
