I broke my toe and bought a new pair of shoes a few weeks later... now my toe stays bent when I take it out of my shoe. Oops! oh well, it doesn't seem to be affecting me very badly. I'll have to send a picture... My feet look particularly funny when I take my shoes off because they still stain my skin red from the new leather. I guess none of this phases me much because my feet go through a lot more because of my running habits than they ever have because of climbing. I've never lost a toenail or had a blood blister the size of my thumb because of my climbing shoes... (oh yeah, and my feet don't even compare to my friend who is a ballet dancer)

Anyone else have experience with bone spurs? I get them on top of my big toes where they hit the top of the shoe because they are bent in there so tightly. They seem to be fine if I'm climbing 3-5 times / week, but if I'm not they hurt every time I climb.

I have ingrown toenail on the big toe of my right foot. A bummer when using my 5.10's, but they seem to do alright with my Boreals.

Yes, recently I too have two ingrown toes nails...on both of my big toes, I knew they were from the climbing shoes. When I went to the Pediatrist he made the comment how nice it was to work on "young" feet....hehe...until he saw my feet. He asked me do you ever use lotion??? I told him, No, I earned those calluses and was damn proud of them!!!

there's few things uglier than feet after climbing in cobras, that yellow color on feet makes it look like your feet are infected or something... yuck! whoever has a foot fetish is going to love that pic D

Last May, after just getting started climbing, I bought a used pair of 5.10s from a guy for $15. They were too small, but I could pull them on. One day I did a 3 pitch route and was in these shoes for about 2 hours. I did several other multi-pitch routes over the next few days. Both of my big toes were numb and hurt for weeks. I still have a numb spot on the right one. Had to get a new pair - and loving them. Bottom line, I think you can (and I have) damage my big toe by too tight of shoes worn for too long.

Red and yellow are one thing, but I have interestingly green feet after climbing. The nice teal color rubbing off from my newish Boreal Exquinoxes... I do have to agree with whoever mentioned ballet dancers though. I did pointe dancing for 10 years and wearing climbing shoes a size too small still has nothing on ballet shoes which are basically wood and cardboard covered in pretty satin...

My cliffs turn my feet blue. It can be really bad if I have been working really hard. No broken toes or blood though.
