Darkness plus softness, both bad, very bad. Some compression artifacts too... It is not the scanners fault, even the very best scanner requires some processing afterwards. For softness, you can do something. I think you can downsize it a bit, and usm to get a better image.

When linking pics, you brackets have to equal out (just like in math). In the first link you have the proper URL and IMG brackets but have an extra one at the start of the HTTP:. In the second one, you don't need brackets around the address. Just http://name , and since it's a link you dont' need any IMG tags.
