Metolius TCU's vs small Aliens, which do you prefer and why? I just purchased Aliens black through yellow so that I have doubles in the small sized cams. I personally don't see any advantages that CCH may have. In fact, the TCU's seem to have nicer action and a narrower width (all the better for small pockets) S-man

Okay, I bought the 4 smallest Aliens. After useing them a bit, I prefer the Metolius TCU's. The TCU's are a higher quality piece and have a narrower profile. However, I do like the flexible stem of the Alien! I don't think the Aliens are going to be very durable. My dos scents!

while this is up top so I'm not bumping it far... Has anybody noticed that the similar topics search has a lot higher signal to noise ratio than the search function? It seems to only search the topics and not the text. Sorry for the hijack...

I prefer my grey and purple TCUs over my blue alien. They just feel stronger and better made. I do really like my green, yellow and red aliens even though my red has a broken wire right now. I would not buy an alien larger than red or smaller than green in the future but that is just me 8^)

I prefer TCUs. Better trigger and cam action, higher quality. Plus I think they look cooler. And we all know that's what's really important. -Tristan

I think the Aliens look cooler and have a way better name. Seriously though, both have their functions. In small, dead vertical cracks that take little or no maneuvering to get gear into aside from simply sliding it directly into place, I really like my small Aliens. However, when placing that small of gear, I tend to wiggle and move my piece until it is keylocked and I know it is not coming out of that crack. TCU's have that rigidity to allow for this, while Aliens do not. Red Alien isn't that small, but most definitely the money piece on my rack.

i have zero's, my partner has aliens, i sold my tcu's so i could buy more lightweight biners. there is nothing inherently wrong with tcu's, but i find aliens and zero's offer more placement possabilities for less weight. IMO, u-stems are a limiting factor for small cams.
