First I woulod like to appoligized for my lateness. I am now back on a regualar schedule and will participate regualrly.
I am also in the process of editing my summer photos from across China.
The idea, for these types of project, I think, is to get us looking at things in a different way. Therefore, I'm going to encourage you all again to take pictures specifically for the assignments instead of using pictures that you already have. It defeats some of the purpose otherwise. By shooting specifically for the assignment, we can also expand our current portfolio.
Assignment #2
Can a single photo really say a 1000 words, if so, can you capture the emotion that seem to surface in climbing.
Do your best to capture: fear, anger, pride, happiness, or any other emotion in a single image. Good luck.
Do your best to record your shutter speed, focal length, the lens you used and any tips on what you did.

I hope you're not taking this as lack of interest in your assignments. This is a good one. A good one, but a damn hard one. It sounds easy on the surface, but emotion is so hard to illustrate with just one snapshot. To experience, it takes a series of expressions, body language, and frequently sound. With a photo you only capture a fraction of that. You just have to hope that fraction is what it takes to get the emotion across.
Here's my meager attempt thus far. I'll keep working on this one.

Looks like a good shot at emotion. Actually, the overall shot is good. The dark background helps place the climber.
Thanks for the reassurance. I was not taking it as lack of interest, I just assumed that everyone was like me: busy.
I am school teacher and the school year has just started.
The good news is that I have almost finished editing my summer photos now and I shot for this assignment last weekend. I will post a picture shortly.

Ok, well, sometimes things just don't go as planned. My husband, our climbing bud Tom, and I, set out to do our first alpine climb last weekend: The North Ridge on Spearhead. I got sick from altitude/hypoglycemia on the first pitch and was promptly lowered to the ground. Mark and Tom then went on to summit in fine style.
I actually wanted to shoot for this assignment that day, but it was difficult. :oops: I took this shot hoping to convey some of the lonley feeling of the day. We were six miles from any road, in the middle of a stunning and wild place, with nobody else around.

Okay, here's mine. It's a shot of my friend Heikos semi-self-depracating pride. He really is proud of that placement, but he realizes (obviously) that the ledge may have given him a slight advantage. I took a few more (well, tried to anyway) of other climbers/expressions and will be posting soon.

Sory this took so long, but I started my school year and I have been extremely busy. It's true that we teachers get some great vacation time, but in between, we sure work hard.
My Photo of Emotion was shot over the weekend on MOon Hill in Youngshuo.
I can't tell how well it will come out on the net, but we'll see.

yes. we went there for the afternoon with some people who were thinking of getting into climbing. and just hiked around. we normally go to sunset, havent been to twall dad wants to in the fall though.

jammer: i'd say your photo would be more related to assignment #3... Not a full portrait, yet subject is recognisable, and fully situated in the setting.

Actually, the subject is much to dominant to be agood shot for assigment three.
It seems that people think a protrait needs to have a reconizeable person, but that not the case.
Photojouranlist often shoot protataits where the action of their subject is more important than the action indivisual.
the whole point of assigment three is to have a climber only fill a small part of the frame, that way, the climb and the enviromrnt become equally if not more imprtant than the climber.
