I am trying to get a feel for how much sport climbing is in South Africa and the quality of the climbing. How does it compare to Railay, Thailand?????? How are the costs compared to Thailand?

where in SA are you going?
Greg Child calls it “world's next climbing mecca”….. “Yosemite may rule for big walls, Pakistan for vertical faces, and Thailand for beach cliffs, but South African climbing is singular. By the end of my stay, I'd sampled the best climbing on earth- in a very troubled setting.”
western cape has the most climbing.
lots of sport. very different from thailand. quarzitic sandstone and some granite.
check out http://www.climb.co.za/crags.asp
at the current exchange rate SA is not as cheap as thailand. costs are comparable to the USA. maybe 20% cheaper.
