Just wondering if anyone has ever popped a nut loose and had it whip back into your forehead. I was in the Gunks last week and was cleaning a #10 stopper from "Kens Crack" and it whipped out and struck me just above the right eye. Being a vascular area, it bled like a stuck pig and looked a lot worse than it turned out to be. Thanks to everyone that saw me for asking if I was all right and offering first aid supplies!

Eh. I once took a tricam full on in the mouth. A brown one. On lead. I learned my lesson, though. There's no need to look at a placement while you set it. K.

I was cleaning behind my brother in law. Just as I was about to free a #3 power cam my foot slipped and put tension on the rope. Out comes the #3 at about mach 2. One of the corners of the lobes hit me square between the eyes. It bled like crazy. But I'm more careful about where the piece is in relation to my face when I clean stuff now.

I sat back on a #8 BD nut (which was in a placement that, in retrospect, ought to have taken a #9), and pulled the thing about 5 seconds after I weighted it. It whipped out and caught me square on the middle knuckle of my middle finger. Hurt like 10 bitches in a bitch boat. The fall was exciting, too.

I've been whacked in the head by lots of nuts (keep your dirty thoughts to yourself). When I cranked on them, my nuts flew out of a fine looking crack and whacked me on the head. The shaft was kind of bent. I may have yanked on it too much. Why are you laughing? GT

Many years ago, I was teaching myself how to nail, with no knowledge at all except what I had read in a few books. I was messing around with my aiders and some pins right off the ground, and pounded in a marginal LA. I then proceeded to bounce test, all the while staring right at the pin. It happened to be at about eye level. When it popped, it shot out of the crack like bullet, and walluped me just above my right eye. I literally saw stars, and the next thing I knew I was laying flat on my back with my aiders and daisys on top of me and a huge lump forming above my eye. And I've never looked at a piece while bouncing it since...experiential education in action! -Nubbler

I just did my first solo trad climb today and thought that I had thought of everything that might go wrong. In retrospect, I should have thought about this eventuality as I was yanking out the pro. After the first few attempts, I tend to get a little sloppy and I'm usually looking right in the crack to see what's preventing the nut from coming out. Thanks for adding another item to my checklist.
