BLINDSLAP, maybe you should go to the supertopo forum and read the discussion posted there regarding roped soloing. It's a very SERIOUS undertaking, with serious consequences! You have two years experience? I wouldn't suggest you do it. But that's my opinion, and I have done it.

ive done some hard solos in the peak district ,england.when ive been on my own i have shunted them first then soloed them with out the hanging rope as you will not get the tick otherwise.make sure you know what you are doing first.

How about top rope self belay on single pitch trad climbs that you can access the top of or rap into, if your good you can rap into a two or three pitch climb and fix a rope on each and then climb them all on top rope ? I recommend the Ushba for this task .http://www.ushba.com/catalog/access.html#basic Much safer then leading solo

Ask 'atg200', 'elcapbuzz', or 'passthepitonspete'. They are very accomplished roped soloists.

Roped soloing of aid is much easier than roped trad solo, and is where you should begin to hone these skills.
This will also get you better at placing gear which is vitally important to safe trad climbing.
Soloing takes a special kind of mentality, not to say that those who do it are mental cases (though I wonder about myself when I am), it just takes a certain kind of self reliance and confidence (which can fully leave you mid-pitch).
So if I were you I would completely exhaust all options of other new partners before embarking on a solo career!
And no offense to my great friend Passthepitonspete, but make sure it is really something you really want to do, before letting him get you all pumped up on it. He loves it and has that special kind of stubborn mentality that makes soloing possible, and his love for it is very contagious!!!
But if it is for you there is no better source of information and inspiration than Pete IMHO. And he will push you to make something more of yourself, which is what you will feel the first time you top out on even a small route all alone with only your own guts and skill to thank for it! I know I whooped it up pretty good the first time I did!!!
