don't know if there has been a topic on this... but what are some of the obscure things you always forgot to take with you on a trip? (not including actual climbing gear). Going on a two week trip soon and would like to hear some useful items to bring... other than beer of course

SUNSCREEN

SUNGLASSES

I don't know how many times I have burned, especially my face looking up on belay, so don't forget a good 30 or 40. And, don't climb without a shirt on without it. Skin cancer is very real. A friend of mine has it due to too many years climbing shirt free.

A hat is always a good thing.
Water bottle

And beer. Lots of it. Don't forget it.

Steve

Credit card. In case you run out of cash buying beer. You can buy more with credit card.

Red Bull (or any type of them drinks) at least 2.

Cliff Bars.

Towells to wipe off sweat and to clean off shoes.

Shoe rug. (put at base of climb to wipe off shoes before and after climbing)

Extra pair of climbing shoes (in case a shoe string blows, or you get pissed and chunk one in the bottom of a lake or river or a hedgehog steal a shoe and you are left with just one)

Comfy shoes for camp (Tevas, Birks, etc...)
Swimsuit (you never know)
Your own big bar of soap
Your own toilet paper (single ply just won't cut it for two weeks!)
Fun drinks (in addition to beer...cream soda, iced tea....heck, you can even throw in some tequila and marg mix and have margarita's one night!)
Lantern
Portable table (in case you aren't camping at a campground)
Tablecloth (in case you are camping at a campground)
Bucket to wash your feet in (sounds too wimpy but really feels good especially after a couple of days in the woods)

Well, this should get you started. Have fun! Where are you going BTW?

Check out "Mountaineering: Freedom of this Hills". It is a great reference for all kinds of climbing and mountaineering, and has some great checklists in them. You will have to write in the beer i think though.

Its happen before, but not on a camping trip. It sucks being locked out of your car.

JumaringJeff has remembered the most important ingredient for camping -- Rubbers. Even if you don't have someone special, Ya never know, she could be right around the corner. And for you ladies, its your responsibility to bring some to, just in case the man of your dreams is there and he is a numbskull and forgot his, or he has used them all up already

If you have not yet seen it, you can click here to see my ULTIMATE BIG WALL CHECKLIST.

It is comprehensive, to say the least!

While it pertains to big wall climbing in Yosemite, I am told a lot of people are referring to it as a template for their own climbing gear checklist, and simply deleting the stuff that's not relevant to them.

Cheers,

Pete

Tables? Rubbers? come on people toughen up.

My list:

(1): Tin can to boil water

(1): flint / magnesium fire starter

(1): blade of some sort

(1): rack of climbing gear and rope

(1): piece of fishing line

(1): good imagination

(1): bad attitude

Place in smallest backpack possible, and stir vigorously. Allow to cool while hiking huge grueling approach.

Leave the kegs and ATV's at home redenecks.

It depends on if you are backpacking or camping out of your car, I will assume camping out of your car.
1) Big cooler to store all your BEER
2) Lots of ice to keep your BEER cold
3) Foam holder to keep your current BEER nice and cold and your hands dry
4) Collapsable chair with a holder in the armrest so you can sit down to drink your BEER
5) Salty snacks to go with your BEER
6) Insect repellant, to keep the bugs off while you drink your BEER
7) First-Aid kit in case you injure yourself opening a BEER
8) Duct-tape, in case you damage your BEER while opening it
9)Sunscreen, so you don't get burned while passed out in your collapsable chair from drinking too much BEER
10)Oh yes, make sure you don't forget to bring lots and lots of BEER, I may bring a few friends to join you.
