Had my interview today and did pretty well. Seems like I got a job! Monday I'll start, don't know exactly what it's about but it sounded pretty interesting. Will work for Jamba (the ringtone company) and have to deal with suppliers and customers (b2b) internationally. Hope my english does well enough :shock:
Sooo, the trip to Löbejün is fixed, the other instructors are instructed and I'm looking forward to hopefully redpoint two of my 'projects' over there (in fact they are so easy, I'm ashamed that I didn't do it last year...).

Thanx! And - no I won't give up the 'climbing thing'! But since chances I can make a living out of it are pretty small I probably will see it as a (sometimes paid) hobby.
Had a bad experience while trying to make a living outa my music... pretty dumb to mix up fun and money. Brings out the worst of both: no fun, no money :roll: .

Well I hate to side track this grand thread of randomness... (Ha!)
Anyway I hopefully will soon join the ranks of you so called Euro-freaks. I'm flying into Madrid on the 23 and then will be living in Santiago de Compostela for the following year under the context of being a student. I'm sure I'll get various breaks to travel around and climb so if anyone wants to help me out with partners that would great. I also have a more specific question for drifter-girl.. . Since it sounds like you live in Barcelona I was wondering if I could try and meet up with you guys in barcelona for a few days before my clases start. If so shoot me an email.

No, alas- I live in Brussels, not Barcelona. I did live in Malaga, in a previous life (see: www.flamota.com) - and hopefully will soon in a future one. But anyway, I'll be in Spain the first two weeks of November for climbing, so if you're there during that time - send me a pm and we'll get busy emailing and planning.
No worries about finding partners once you get here, either... I'm sure we'll think of SOMETHING... :twisted: :wink:

Getting back to CLIMBING... bellaitalia and I went to Val di Mello last weekend. On the drive in on Friday it was pouring, but Sat and Sun turned out to be fantastic. We did two longer routes, some sport and bouldering. Did I already mention that this is one of my favourite places on the planet?

Hi folks!
Well, I'm back, everyone's alive and we had (again) a perfect weekend.
The worst part was to watch this artist - who never climbed before - pushing her way through a bloody 5.10 on sunday! It took me half a year of sweat and tears to even come close to climb that sucker! And she :evil:
Damn, should have started before 30 for sure...
So, guys and gals I'm back to the ringtone :twisted:

Here's the trip report:
The weekend began auspiciously when I arrived in VDM to discover the most wonderful thing ever: NO MOSQUITOES!!!! I enjoyed a peaceful night of sleep in my fantastic new sleeping bag, while Heiko complained constantly about the firmness of his pillow. That wimp!!!
On Saturday we decided to go climb Alba di Nirvana, since it's one of the few routes in the valley easy enough for us. D*mn, I wish I could lead VII+ trad!!! I foolishly agreed to lead the first pitch with a 10 meter unprotected slab. Fortunately, I emerged unscathed and relinquished the lead to Heiko, who put in a fantastic performance on a steep pitch with only his nuts for protection. :-)
That evening we gave our feet another workout on the steep slab routes on Sasso Remenno. Then I got to show off my new nut placing skills on the single pitch trad route. Heiko can attest that I had one truly creative placement....I wish I had a picture!
Sunday was an adventure to say the least. In the guidebook, the route Mixomeceto is labeled as a VI, P1 route that only requires quick draws. After much effort trying to find the route, Heiko led the first pitch, which was fun, but pretty scary even as a second. The guidebook said the next pitch was III-IV, so I agreed to lead. The next 20 minutes are not ones that I EVER want to repeat. Let's just say there were close to 50 meters of slab and the only protection I placed was a sling around a dead branch about 30 meters up. I've never been so scared before. Yeah, I don't think that climb was P1.....
Our trip finished up with the requisite loss of skin on the boulders in the meadow. In summary, great weekend with short periods of extreme fear!!!

As it seems you're not a chicken in climbing just make it become a style. Heiko "the Soft Pillow Hardman" sounds good! :lol:

Don't know if I can stand it for long. The job had to be hell of fun (which it isn't by now) to make me stay here... My bosses anticipated that I'll be more of a 'cleaner', which is something I really am willing to be. Would be interesting, but since I doubt the will of the people to get rearranged... for many of them the chaos reads 'freedom' :roll: as noone is able to control their actual work. They don't see that it's also annoying like hell to run after every f*cking information for hours... stupid ants who all believe they can trick themselfs. - Daniel
