Lafayette Campground is probally the closest. I wouldn't call it cheap by any means, I think the going rate is $24 /night. If you stay there, make sure you get a site as far back from Rt.93 as possible or you will be listening to trucks driving by all night long. http://www.franconianotchstatepark.com/lafayette.html Dan

Double check on the WMNF website for the particular area, but you can camp nearly anywhere as long as you're 200 feet off of a trail and away from streams. I think you may need to be 1/4 mile off of the Kancamagus, but that's still not that far a walk. All you need to pay is the parking fee (I think $7). They charge too much for a camp site, just dive into the woods and enjoy the seclusion. Camp fires are even legal in most cases, just be smart. Cheers
