Usually an Amber ale, but sometimes an IPA. I've even heard of one team making a dopplebock, but they were hardcore, and such brews are beyond us mere mortals. ;) (Tea, coffee, or broth/boullion.)

Its anything hot. Sometimes just hot water (try it yourself). Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, gatorade, tang, jello, soup, etc. Simple eh?

mountaineers talk about brewing because when there is no liquid water around (e.g., high on mtns) one is forced to spend an inordinate amount of time melting snow or 'brewing'. You can add tea, coffee, soup to your 'brew' but it isn't necessary because there is typically soo much natural flavor in snowmelt water. By flavor, i mean dirt. brew up!

In reply to: By flavor, i mean dirt. brew up! Personally I find that some snow has a really good flavor of dirt... Or maybe I'm just super freakin' thirsty. Oh yeah and we need to rename the thread "Non-alcoholic brews brews brews". To be fair to those who automatically think of beer. Skinny

OK, That answers the Brews.brews, brews question, but what about "wake and bake". Is that a reference to making scrumptious little cakes too eat while resting on the side of the hill. :D

Lately, I have found myself migrating to Double IPA. Stoudts out of PA makes a double-down, hopfest of a double IPA. Live the dream.

'Wake and bake', huh? I would have to guess thats a reference to the morning 'loaf'. In which case i wouldn't recommend snacking on it for the rest of the day - but hey, you're free to do what you like in the mountains.

alright alright, a micro, but one all of you gunks climbers have easy access to: goto rock and snow, buy a pint glass, get coupon for a free pint at guilded otter. goto guilded otter, order a pint of their ipa. and another and another. then try their porter. the best way ive figured out to end a day at the gunks yet.

Drinking almost exclusively at the UAF Pub allowed me to be lazy and not try new things for the most part, but they're still some of my favs: Alaskan Amber: The old standby Alaskan Oatmeal Stout: Simply Delicious Alaskan Summer Ale: Good and light for those warm summer afternoons Also a big fan of Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout. Pity is, I haven't seen (or tasted) any of these since moving to Utah. It is about time for a trip back to Idaho, though...

I'd like to know what happened to the days of O/E high gravity 800's in camp four, you dudes drink some expensive brew. Its cool you have good taste in beer but i'm sad the true dirt-bag days are over. Mabye i'm crazy though, probably now that I think of it. As for the wake and bake and hippie lettuce, :D, thats all I got to say, plus I need some chips.
