This is a question from my wife. She stated that she would not purchase a pair of climbing shoe no matter how well they perform unless they were the right color and cute!!! :? I say, leave it to a women to come up with an opinion like that. but it did get me thinking a bit and I thought I'd see what the rest of the climbing community thinks. Sorta makes sense from a women's point of view since that is why they purchase clothing and various other things around the house.

I got exactly same story with one of my ex-GF Perfect shoes and she hated them 'cause they were "not blue"

When I first started climbing, I simply *had* to have these new Boreal slippers because they were solid black, would complement anything I was wearing and looked so neato.... Now, I want a climbing shoe that works well on the climb without hurting my tootsies if I forget to carry other shoes for the walk off. Color doesn't matter anymore. But, I do have to admit, I felt a slight sense of satistfaction this summer when my blue Crocs matched blue clothing. Now, I have red crocs, and I am happier in my olive green clothes, because the color works.

I do find it odd the color choices that they do select. Climbing shoes somehow don't fall under the fashion radar - possibly because it used to be whatever worked? Some shoes look great, but it's one place where I think it really doesn't matter. It's nice to ID a shoe by its color. And I kinda like cool shoes as much as the next chick, but matching my outfits NEVER occured to me. :)

I would say it has to do with marketing. I can see the shoes someone is wearing and almost instanly identify them. This probably helps companies to get recognition. Especailly when it comes to pros wearing their shoes!

I always look for the neon colored shoes first....bright annoying colors second... colors just go with the personality of the shoe...when you buy a shoe, you're buying the passion of the its intend preformance....color is MAJOR in the magic making process...its the ying and yang......nay, the colors is ones shoe chi....its all powerful ballancing force..that particular color was choosen based on years of meditation and studying the soul of a particular shoe...its a personal insult to choose a shoe on color too, the shoes fill its there birth right and to be bais on it would be a kick in the nuts to them, because its magic and you and that shoe are just' suppost to end up together...destiny some say...some call it "fit"...and you can never coordinate colors with your shoes....your feet are uber important and you never want to throw off your shoes chi if you wear that yellow precip while your climbing in katana's..(now, the whole system is flipity-flop in france and western switzerland), but not to be mistaken with the coordination system of ones axes and gaiters.....you must always be proud of your shoe color.

Since we're on the topic, anyone else notice that La Sportive changed the color on the men's Mythos to a more masculine burnt orange (like the Cobra)? I guess they felt that the cute lavendar color was scaring off men who were less in touch with their feminine side. It will be interesting to see if sales actually go up with the color change.

I'm pretty sure they didn't completely change the mythos, but rather added a second color option. I'm rather partial to the original purple, but the new color might be cooler in the sun, perhaps?

In reply to: because its magic and you and that shoe are just' suppost to end up together...destiny some say...some call it "fit"... Well done!
In reply to: Climbing shoes somehow don't fall under the fashion radar"... Now, if Prana got into the climbing shoe market, it would be an altogether different story.... They could run coordinating color palettes each season, and even do flip flops. No, really!

And their sizing is much smaller than the normal. ( Mantis knickers ) GURRRRR!!! I think that my wife would still think that color is a important as performance. After all you can buy a Ferrari in just about any color under the sun and it handles perfectly. ( Little extreme of an example for the local crags but the point is well made.)

I say troll please who has ever heard of trying a shoe on?!? I've picked all of my shoes based on what compliments my skin tone the best. On a serious note as the demand for a wider palete of shoes increases companies will deliver. * Also I'm pretty sure the purple mythos aren't a option they have been cut. * I know a guy who bought baby blue katanas because they fit better...

Point of order: Anasazi Velcros, Muiras (but mostly for women), Cobras, Venoms, and V10s complete any outfit. Just look at the slobbering hordes that sport them everywhere thinking they'll climb as hard (or harder) than the pros who wear them. "Check it out, Sharma wore these on Witness-the-Never-Mandala-Realisation" As for me, whatever hurts the most tends to look the coolest, so black shoes in the desert are a must.

Why am I reponding to this post?!$%$# But has anyone noticed the nice earthtone colors the new mythos come in? And while we are on the subject, I would like to see a mfg make a shoe with a lighter color rand that would reflect the sun light instead of absorb-it-black. I'm tired of my feet having meltdowns on hanging belays. Okay, I feel much better now!
