I was surfing the web, and came across something new that climbing the magazine is doing now. Looks like a booty exchange program... Anyone think this is going to catch on?? I mean if you got up there and took it out, are you really going to write climbing and then have to give it back to the owner??.... I thought the whole purpose of booty was you got to keep it....

Sounds kind of like a ploy to get more subscribers??? (i.e. must have a Climbing subscription to post info).
Per the intended use, I would see it as place to notify of gear I found at the base of a climb that it would appear was left behind as opposed to gear I pulled from the rock. A friend of mine just found a brand new rope and bag at the bottom of a route. That's the kind of thing I would post to Climbing. Booty pulled from the rock is yours to keep IMHO.

yeah I can see posting somehting like that. At my local crag, there is a box where you can put notes for stuff like that in it. It is near the sign in box.

hmmm now why would I want to give back booty I fought so hard to get??
I don't really think this will catch on,something tells me that people won't want to give up that shiny #3 cam they spent 1/2 an hour liberating from some obscure crack you normally wouldn't climb,but hey there was something shiny up there....

No I would not give the booty back, I put my effort into cleaning it from the route, which the owner was not skilled enough to do, he really does not deserve to get it back.
In my mind stuck cams and nuts take away from the climb, I have often found that the stuck gear is right in a good hand or foot hold and it needs to be removed.
The last cam I pulled was on Reeds Direct first pitch, it had broken trigger wires and looked like it had been worked on quite a bit (it took me less than 5 min to pull, with the broken wires). It was an old style flexable friend, if this is your cam, sorry I gave it to my partner and it was not that hard to pull you should have been able to pull it especially since it was just a few moves from the ground!

I say free booty for all. If you get get it out of the wall, it's yours. I will undoubtedly regret this philosophy when I go on a bad run of losing gear, but until then, it's mine.
