Got this request from The Learning Channel and wanted to pass it along:

Dear climbing community;

My name's Tim Kuehn, I'm helping produce a medical documentary series for The Learning Channel. We'd love to develop a story about a climber who's been badly injured by a fall, frostbite, etc., who is now considering some radical medical procedure (like a totally space-age prosthetic, a toes-for-fingers transplant, facial reconstruction, etc.) in order to resume a normal life.

Any such cases you could suggest would be most appreciated.

This show is being produced for The Learning Channel by GRB Productions in Sherman Oaks, CA. If you have stories or contacts you'd like to share, or any questions about this documentary series, I can be contacted at:

If a climber replaced missing finger(s) with various aid gear, would they loose their ability to claim a free ascent?

There have been three major permits (from what ive been told) of filming projects going on on El Cap this fall, one was the Huberbaum, but reportedly Alex recently broke his ankle so thats scrapped. 2 is Jack osborn and 3 is someone with an artificial heart. #3 sounds like something they might be looking for, but i do not know who is filming him, could it be TLC?

Is this a good trophy? Might not be appropriate in this case, but I'll keep it on the shelf for later use.

Also, if someone had cams for fingers... damn, that'd be an unpleasant way to pick your nose.

Neither free nor aid. They would be cyber-climbs and two of them climbing at the same time would be simul-cybers.

Remember the most awful science fiction movie of all time? Course you do... that would be Disney's Black Hole.

The one good piece in that movie was when the robot started drumming its fingers in synch with its master.

I saw this day coming, way back then. If a hand can drum its fingers, it can learn to climb!

I was climbing at Jackson Falls about 3 weeks ago and we ran into a group of guys. At first I didn't even notice that one of the guys was missing his arm from the elbow down. I first noticed that he didn't have an arm when he was leading this route and it looked like he stuck his entire hand in a small crack. Then I realized he just wedged his stump into it while he was clipping.

I was very very impressed!

Yeah, earlier this summer there was an issue of Rolling Stone that had a picture of him clinging to the support of some bridge sporting a pair on Anasazis.
