Dear Gentle Site Managers,

So the question is... can someone point me to the advertisement thread that had the link to the really big beer commercial? I can't seem to find it using the search engine. Thanks

DMT

So I tried a seach for my own thread:

Using simple and advanced I searched on the title

"the best ad ever"

Nothing. Didn't even bother to tell me to bugger off, simply no response at all.

Now this is not a complaint, but I have never once successfully found a thread for which I was searching using this tool. It cannot seem to find a thread I started myself, when directed to the forum in which it was posted using a direct quote of the thread title.

Maybe its just me.

Maybe the search feature won't search Community? For reasons known to TPTB.

But my thread, this one, is in Suggestions and the search engine doesn't find it with a direct quote from the tread title which is also a direct quote from within the body of the thread.

Seems like it doesn't work. And again, I'm not complaining, but I have never once successfully found a thread using this engine. It returns stuff, but seemingly never what I'm after.

Ambler, if you know where that thread it, can you post the link. I looked manually in Community and I couldn't find it that way either.

Cheers

The search tool is for sucks, as they say in the Old Country. The similar threads engine seems to be way better, I sometimes get tempted to just start a thread with the same keywords in the title and then look at that.

Hey Dingus,

go to My Topics under the users tab on the left. If you posted it or even to it, it keeps a record of all your postings.

Hope this helps,

Marc

Dingus,
I think this is the link you are looking for, for the ad itself at least.

Try finding THIS THREAD using the search engine, lol.

I used simple: "the best ad ever", nothing. Advanced, ditto.

Fine tuned: Advanced, 'the best ad ever' posted since 'yesterday' by 'Dingus' in the 'Suggestions' forum... NOTHING!

I could HAND THE THREAD TO THE ENGINE and it still wouldn't see it.

I think it is me, as others can obviously post while the site swallows mine whole without so much as a burp.

I too have had poor luck with the forums search. But for threads you've started or posted to, the 'My topics' link will get you there, though you may have to click through a few pages of results to get there. Knowing the thread title certainly will help.

In this case, I suspect the problem is the fact that 'the' and 'ad' are short words (three letters or less) and are therefore probably not indexed by the search system. We rely on open-source technology for the full-text search, and that makes it difficult to improve, unfortunately.

Anyway, someone's already posted the link, so I hope that's all you need. If not, try 'My topics', and see where that gets you. Hope this helps,

-aB
