We have found that almost all other brands of crampons will work well
with the Montrail Ice 9, Lotus and Olympus boots. After implementing
the
recall on the Montrail Ice 9 and Khumbu crampons we sent Montrail boots
that use the Ice System crampons to Black Diamond, Petzl, and Trango
and
these companies tested some of their crampons on the Montrail boots and
gave their feedback and recommendations.
From Black Diamond we recommend considering the Bionic for climbing
steep ice and the Sabretooth for general mountaineering. The Vasak
series from Petzl is recommended for general mountaineering, while the
Petzl M-10 crampons work well for climbing ice. The Trango
Hyper-Harpoon
also works well with the Ice 9 boots for climbing steep ice.
