Second,I was climbing from way back in the 60's,before serving my country in Vietnam and for the right of free speech.If you think you can stop our rights then you don't belong in this country.
My questin was valid,if your so clever tell us what a caving ladder looks like?

This is very easily the oddest string of posts i have read on this sight.
Although i am not an aid climber, and know that they like to haul large amounts of heavy stuff up walls, I would think that a caving ladder would be a little on the un-necessarily heavy side. Assuming that what i think a caving ladder is is the same as what you think a caving ladder is.

Caving ladders are flexible aluminum,you can roll them up,they come in 10 or 20 meter lengths.Aid is about using whats needed to climb the unclimbable,so why not use them like a Via Ferrata but on walls?
Just an idea,creativity is good.

All I've got to say is good luck putting a piece in 20m above your head.
The reason climbers use those funny little nylon ladders is because they don't have to be any longer. In fact some folks only use five steps because they don't think the sixth is even needed.
But who knows maybe your like 40m tall and that bottom step is really required.
I'd hazard a guess you're not 40m tall, cause you'd be bitching that the hardest part of most sport routes is the one move sit start.
In short the answer is no, because they are designed for almost completely different purposes. Kinda like using a fork to eat soup. It might work but it's alot of extra work. Besides which aid steppers are like 12$

You guys aren't geting my point,I mean fixing the ladder as permanent fixture on wall sections,ie attached by bolts to the wall,a lightweight Via Ferrata.It's still aid,just a fixed variety.
I don't mean using it like etriers.This forum seems to attract sarcastic replies,don't you like new posters on here?I was asking a genuine question

Caving is not about attaching fixed hardware, it's about exploring. Fixing a "via ferrata" would pretty much lose what caving is about "the unknown"
Don't mind curt, most of his posts these days are hate posts.
Curt have you done much caving?
Dr. Piton has not been a member of this site in quite some time. Like vegastradguy said you can catch him on www.supertopo.com

Thanks!, i was suggesting ladders for climbing,not caving.
I been caving since 1964 worldwide,and was a member of the cave diving fraternity before it got politicized.

I'm a noob as far as aiding goes, but what I do know is that I'd enjoy a bolt ladder clip up a lot more than a bolted on ladder. Not to mention the fact that it'd be a major eyesore and a shame as well. Aiding for me isn't just about getting up a rock, it's about placing the pieces and scaring the crap out of myself wondering if I'm gonna pop. A permanent ladder may as well be a staircase carved in the rock, it's too easy and unentertaining. I can at least enjoy moving upwards on a bolt ladder, in comparison, and enjoying myself is what climbing is all about.

there is definitly a diffrence between a via farreta route and an aid route.
i kinda like it that way.
or at least thats what i say while safely relaxing in my herman miller office chair with a warm cup of joe in my hand. fatty bolts and a wire ladder will probobly sound better when i'm rope soloing above 8 pieces that a screamer won't even help.
