How would we notice it? You're the one with the tricam. Pic isn't good enough for me to make a definitive judgement. But if you'll send me both, I'll be glad to compare 'em for you. PM me for snail mail address... Brutus

sorry... let me clarify... Has anyone else noticed that their newer .5 tricams are not the same size as their older .5 tricams? The pic I posted is low res, I know, but it's a camera phone pic... sorry. I used a level to show that it's not a trick of the eye, and the one on the right is touching the level, the one on the left isn't. and no, you can't have my tricams 8^) . I love my tricams, different as they may be. hosh.

The increase in size appears to be overall not just the single lug or pivot side. Have you weighed them?

Yep!!! This summer I decided to finally upgrade my tired but true Tricams - I love the three smallest ones! Last month at Quartz Mtn. I was on a climb where I have used my old pink tricam many times in a hole where nothing else would fit and my new one just would not FIT!!! I tried and tried and finally just gave up. When I got back home I measured them and sure enough...just like you found...the new one is bigger.

Just how "new" is that new tricam? Okay, it's new to you, but I was under the impression that the newEST tricams were anodized and the slings were replaced with spectra slings. (they're now identified by the color of the anodization which corresponds to the color each sling used to be.) Can anyone verify if the sizing difference continues into the anodized tricams?

You can get both versions. I actually haven't even seen the new ones in a shop yet.

It was the "old" style (not anodized) but I just got it in the mail yesterday, so it's "new". The "old" tri-cam I compared it to was one I picked up while in Glennwood Springs, CO a little over a year ago. And I'm not opposed to "altering" it, I just wish I didn't have to. I'd rather it be like the "old" one. stupid new size. The old one is perfect for so many places! PS, I'm not going to be able to "test" the new one for a while, it finally started snowing today up in Alaska. Whoo Hoo!!! (that means snowboarding soon...) hosh.

Hi, I can confirm your observation. Let's do some definition : Pink tricam A : non-anodized tricam, the one that everybody known until 6 months approx. Pink tricam B : non-anodized, sold everywhere since 6 months approx. A little bit bigger than tricam A Pink tricam C : new anodized tricam I have the tricam A. And 6 months ago, I went to the shop with a friend to buy the smaller size and I noticed that the "new"pink is smaller. I thought it was a "defect". So I kindly asked the vendor if I can see all the others tricam (around 20 pieces   ) to compare them !! Tha'ts too bad that CAMP decide to make them bigger. the old one is just at the right size !

who did you order them from? I'd be willing to bet that the .5 is the "new" bigger one. Don't know about the 2. hosh.

The wayback machine from http://www.archive.org/ shows specification from the July, 26 2003 website of http://www.camp-usa.com. '03 data: 0.5 min: 16 mm max: 28 mm 1 min: 20 mm max: 30 mm Does anyone have the current data? PS Mr. Sherman, a time-travelling dog and his pet boy, Sherman also had a cool wayback machine. Edited once to add units (mm) re the expansion size.

So, let me see: with a "sawed-off" old pink, and an old pink... if I get a new pink, I'll have a pink for every placement! a quiver of pinks! SWEET! Glad I stocked up on pinks before they gained weight. Brutus

According to the product tag PDF file currently on the Camp-USA site, it lists the "useful range" of the pink tricam as 16mm to 28mm.

They've been like this for a while....their batches have been quite a bit different in overall size. I first noticed this when they redid the labeling on their slings. They have new diagrams, strength ratings, ect. I'm not talking about the new spectra slings, same material colors, just different black tags sewn onto them. I actually think I have 3 generations of tricams here...too bad I dont have a digital camera. Cheers, Jim

I noticed this size difference. my old pink had a crack in it and i was forced to buy a new one. i had never fallen on it and i couldn't beleive i had a 4 month old cracked tri-cam. when i compared the two, i could tell the dimensions were slightly off. i couldn't put my finger on it. i'm going to try to have rock&snow send it back to camp, just so maybe they could tell what happened to it...
