If you search the history of ascention, you do not find "Bouldering" in the idex of this subject. Long boards were resurrected in skateboarding to give the people that couldn't master the craft of skateboarding, a feeling like they belonged to this subculture. Well my friends, we have the same thing with bouldering. Bouldering is gym climbing with a ton of mattress pad resting. Climbing is everthing else. If you fall "bouldering" you might land on a cushy pad. Worse case scenario you may break an ankle or even worse a leg. If you fall climbing you may die!!! -tda

http://members.ij.net/captbob2112/troll.jpg UM...People have been climbing the small stones for a looooooooong time. Most of our heroes and legends have spent many a day "practice climbing," or exploring rock piles and talus fields on a rest day, or honing their tequnique/strength in "bouldering areas" like Bishop and Hueco in the off season. I know there are some assholes and pricks and babies out there and most of them are gym rats and have never roped up (except for that one time at boy scout camp when they were 11) but denouncing bouldering so harshly and completely makes you sound like a moron. cheers!

Don't know enough about skating to argue on that count, but you gonna *really* sit there and say people who boulder can't climb? Like the two are somehow mutually exclusive? Seems you need to get out more. 2) It's not in the history. Well, take a close look at that history, and you tell me. what else should we get rid of? At some point, there we no manufactured harnesses, no C4 rubber for shoes, hell, there was a point before climbing shoes! How far you wanna go back? 3) bouldering is an indoor sport. Okay, next time you have a few days off, I want you to go to this little park outside of El Paso, TX. It's called Hueco Tanks. Go there, look around, then report back on this 'point'. 4) bouldering is not climbing because you can't die doing it. My god, I can't believe you said that. Yes, people die climbing. How could you be so insensitive to make that a requirement? the fact that PEOPLE DIE is a sad fact- not a tool you pull out to determine if you are 'real' or not. You are twisted as hell. Lord, were you drunk when you posted this? Cuz, really, your basis for what you think is a point is really just some juvie way to incite a flame war. Feel better about your importance to the world yet? Quit trying to be so elitist as to make up for your other failings.

No, bouldering is not real climbing. It's a very clever deception, but if you pay real close attention you will notice that the boulderer actually remains at the same height while they, in fact, pull the entire planet down (relative to the climber). To onlookers it appears that the boulderer is climbing up, but in reality they are just pulling the top out down to them. This is where the term "pulling down hard" really comes from. When a boulderer "falls" it is actually because someone much stronger than them is bouldering on the other end of the planet and is pulling down harder in an opposed direction.

Mr. Ikefromla, I shall not kiss your lower area, yet I will suggest that extending that knee could or will lead to problems in the future. That "problem" looks harder than anything I could do, yet I cannt help but feel sorry for your knee. Relax my friend. Tie into a rope and leave the ground. I was working my body out at the gym, and I realized that I finally understand you. When you get off the deck, you will understand me. Cheers -tda

Now Stroker, if I plucked you out of Grand Junction, Colorado, and dropped you in the middle of New York City, where you would have to work a full time job, get around by subway, and have scant access to anything that is not man-made, your ass would be all over the boulders of Central Park 'cuz that is all that you would have to work with aside from gyms. And for the "real climbing" record, I know tons of kids who are more commited and passionate about thier urban bouldering than you guys lucky enough to live by mountains. Thanks for bringing climbing down a notch. How very "real" of you.

I'm glad to see that there are people out there who are so accepting of all real sports. It is amazing that you can say that one aspect of our sport is real and the other is fake. Thats interesting because how can a sport that thousands of people around the world participate in and even compete in is fake. I find your comments on both bouldering and longboarding offensive because both seem pretty real to me. If nothing else though it was a good troll (if you've figured out what that is)

A troll is a person who says completely meaningless things and starts stupid threads just to watch those others who are naive enough to respond in a real way. Its like making fun of retards sortof...anyway it means your just an idiot for putting others down for their way of climbing...in fact it means you aren't wanted here as you are diminishing the real usefulness of this website for those who wish to use it to learn to expand their lives through the type of climbing that they choose or that is currently available for them...shut up or leave bro long boarding is fun too...fyi...im sorry i didn't realize climbing was actually a dick measuring contest

Stroker, it seems like all you can do is come on here and bash the sport that you do. I'm a trad climber... 90% of the time. the rest of that time I do a bit of sport, and god forbid... bouldering. It's all rock climbing to me. There is a ton you can gain from it. Get over yourself. wtf, my quote didn't work, oh well.

stroker i like your style. you are consistent with your thoughts about climbing and how lame bouldering is. now you just have to realize that the majority of people that post here well at least people w/ over 2000 posts are noobs, hypocrites, that like to spray what they can't do. ex. are edge, curt, bobd1843. edge the biggest hypocrite will allow curt to yell at posters shut the Fock noob, yet in the meantime locks a thread for bashing a boulder. then he clicks on "norope" so he can check out porn on the hotness thread. by the way i love that thread hate norope but like hotness. stroker people here actually like a person who rapp bolts a climb then hang dogs his way through the climb just to claim a FA right Philadelphia liar. you may be trolling but i agree w/ you. crash pads wtf are crash pads used for?
