Ranges from the sweetest, kindest, soulful sax to atonal chaos from the Crab Nebula. But man, can that cat blow! JL

I can't find anything where he played in my jazz corner, but Chris Potter dedicated him a song (The Mind's eye) on his album Gratitude, so it can't be bad!

Well, of all the various clones of Coltrane, Brecker is probably my least favorite. There was something about that band he had with his brother Randy that still makes my skin crawl. Dave Liebman is more interesting to me though even what he does comes directly from the tap root of Saint Coltrane himself. I mean why settle for less? Intersteller Space plays in the background......

They're all basically bop players so there's always gonna be those penatonic scaler runs and minor 7th stuff but Brecker isn't sounding much like 'Trane these days. Check out "Wide Angles." You migh be surprised. Cat sounds more like Sandborn than Trane. How about Eric Dolphy?JL

Dolphy? Dolphy!! I love Dolphy although most of his albums don't represent his genius very well. Actually, his best records have just been re-released recently. The Live at the Five Spot recordings. Stellar band. Booker Little on trumpet the great Mal Waldron on piano, Richard Davis on bass and New Orleans ( and Ornette's ) own Ed Blackwell on drums. What a band.

One other thing about Mr Brecker, he's very ill right now and is in need of a bone marrow transplant. Hopefuly he'll find a donor soon but he hasn't had much luck I'm afraid.
