I have recently been given the daunting task of finding a honeymoon location for my bride and myself. I was thinking of a little secluded cottage near some water... perhaps some hiking...climbing is good but not a must. Any ideas or tips where to look? g.

We went to Thailand for our honeymoon. But we only wanted to climb! There is jungle to poke around it and ocean to swim in. I highly recommend it! Congrats on your wedding plans! :D

OOOOHHH! I just had another idea. Acadia National Park! It's beautiful there and there is stuff to do other than climbing. Lots of really cool hikes, biking on carriage roads, sea kayaking. It's another magic place!

Oooooh, that looks sooooo good. I wanna go there honeymoon or not. Bouldering right on the beach, can`t get much better than that. Seriously, if I had my time over I would definitely be heading somewhere warm like as in tropical.

my fiancee and I are going to Lake Tahoe, assuming we don't kill each other before August. I don't really know the area, but it seems like it might fit the bill for you too (probably not the secluded cottage part)... The good news is, as long as we can afford it, we're going to Yosemite for a few days while we're down there!

we've never bothered with a honeymoon, life has just been two busy for the last 3 years since we've been married. however, we've been trying to get away for a week and spend it in Estes. i know we can score ourselves a cute little mountain cabin to spend time locked in, and even though she's not a climber i know she'll enjoy hiking in the park. it also gives her a chance to see the places i've been climbing at the for the last couple of years. not to mention a couple of good restaurants, a little bit of touristy shopping, scenic driving, and we can always head down to boulder to see friends and let my wife do some more shopping. i could also always short rope her up some easy stuff at lumpy if she would like. i guess the theory is a 'honeymoonish' gettaway that doesn't really revolve around climbing but shows my wife a bit of my climbing life that she doesn't get to see.

We went to Kauai...beautiful, remote, and not at all touristy. They call it the garden isle. Do some backpacking on the Napali coast - unbelieveably gorgeous. I think that's where they filmed the fly over scenes for Jurassic Park. If you have some more $$ and want to get in some climbing, try Spain. If that sounds at all interesting, send me a PM and I'll give ya the skinny ;)

Have you thought of Vegas? Get married by Elvis, spend a bunch of cash in the casinos, climbing just a few miles out of town. Granted, this is a last-ditch option.

there isn't really any surfing on the marquesas(no reefs, just volcanic cliffs dropping into the water), but there is definitely surfing on tahiti, huahine, and probably moorea too. teahuapoo is the famous godawful scary looking barrel in tahiti that was on the cover of surfing recently, which i will go nowhere near(i'd rather roll the dice on annapurna). there are a handful of nice mellow beachbreaks on tahiti and huahine that i plan on checking out though. my fiancee is a pretty avid surfer, and i try.

if you're into natural beauty (who isn't?) i suggest a tour of U.S. national parks. i know it sounds a bit cramped traveling in a car from one park to the next, but oh the sights!!! zion, grand canyon, yosemite, yellowstone...i feel so bad i've only gone to one of those. there's so many great things to see in this country. i figure you could rent out cabins at each place you go.

teahuapoo? No thanks! That wave doesn't break. It folds. Then explodes. In 3 foot deep water. Over a live, tropical reef. Yegads.

first of all i want to say congratulations gerry!! good to see everything going so well for you! to help find an answer to your question: pick a place that neither one of you have been to, this way you can start new memories together. wherever you choose i am sure she'll think it is perfect
