Just a couple months. It took quite a bit to break it in (still not done) but foams will all soften with time and use, so I guess itīs a good thing. The only thing thatīs a bit annoying is how stoic the thing is, I mean itīs bare bones essentials... but for that price Iīm willing to accept it.

Bare Bones!?! The mad pad has straps that allow it to be converted into a GIANT crazy creek stlye love seat! That is worth the $120 right there. I also like the velcro flap for connecting multiple pads.

The covering is a bit thin. I think mine will deffinately be getting thrashed come spring time. for $120 its hard to pass up, if I were to get a new pad I would look into revolution maybe, something that is a taco fold.

I was looking at the Mad Pad when I was in the market a while ago and liked the "couch" feature and the price, but I managed to sang a Cordless off eBay for a bit less money. I am glad I went that route, because in MY opinion, the taco style is a little bit better than having the hinge. That being said, my buddy ended up with the Mad Pad, and I would fall on it any day! My decision was based solely on price. Good luck on finding a pad! Stovetop

I'm not sure why you would want more than "bare bones" in a pad - all the other flaps become a big hassle in my opinion. I think the Mad looks like the best deal, however, in another thread someone calculated the price per cubic inch and the Mad Pad was not the cheapest. That doesn't mean don't get it - just a cool calculation. Whatever you do, check the "hot deals" thread and use a coupon. There's almost always a new 20% off coupon for REI - that'd drop the price of a Mad just below 100.

The Mad Pad may be inexpensive, but last month some friends and i went bouldering up at Mt. Haycock (PA). First day of use for my buddies mad pad and it got pushed down on some rocks and ripped. First day! The Franklin (now Black Diamond) drop zone is a champ, having taken more than the abuse the mad pad did that day for two years and not even a small tear. The cover makes all the difference. And my other qualm with a mad pad is that it is too stiff, it won't fit into any area you need it to get into.

Never used the mad pad. I have heard that it is too thick. If you just miss it it is going to roll your ankle. I have a friend with a fat bastard. Not as thick as the mad pad, but still thick enough to roll an ankle. I have the drop zone II and love it. Tacos let you pack more.
